Why is it designed to try and suck in colour ink if it's a purely black/white picture? :I

Probably because it mostly works and they can't be arsed to change it. I have no idea, man, I was never an engineer or anything. I'm just giving the reason I was always given.

I know!

It's the same reason why text on an LCD monitor is actually made up of oddly colored pixels.

By using the color cartridge in the inkjet printer to print some color with the black to make black text and lines, the smoothness and crispness (perceptual) of the resulting image is improved.

MyMathLab is telling me to graph f(x)=3x3+11. That would be simple if it weren't for the fact that I can only put points on even numbers, making this entirely impossible to do, as there is not a single ordered pair of integer values within the range provided where both numbers are even given that function.

This program was written by monkeys who were given typewriters, except the paper was shredded first and fed into a scanner, which then converted the scanned image into a jpeg, compressed it, took the resulting file, turned it into text and forced to compile.

EDIT: I asked for another and it gave me 2x3+5. Thanks, that's totally less impossible!

EDIT 2: I tried 2 more times and the fourth time it finally gave me something possible, 3x3+10.

EDIT 3: I just took the hit on the homework. The answer required having points on -1 and 1.

Im not far away from smashing my head on my desk in frustration. Ive assembled another troup of my Trollbloods and started painting them, along with a heavy Warbeast. But for the life of me, I just cant get the damn skin on this Warbeast right.

http://privateerpress.com/files/products/71058_TrollMaulerWEB.jpg

Thats the thing when its finished, i've tried several times now to aplly different shades of blue to get around the same effect on my Model, but it_does_not_work. I tried to make a few different layers and then merge them with a blue wash, but now he looks like he has some kind of weird skin desease. AUGH.

I also tried to get a few opinions on my first models, just for some feedback, so im motivated to continue. But my friendcircle doesnt have any interest in the models and the thread i made on Dakkadakka vanished into the ether without any response. Painting is hard. Q.Q

@Stuebi: Layers. Painting involves layers and layers of color. Trust your shades (or levels of hue) and you can get the colors right! :D
It just looks a tiny bit darker when you paint it compared to its dried form, probably due to the liquid medium and the lighting, beware of that.

If it were oil paint, I would say that is pthalo blue with titanium white base, with a thin wash of varying intensity veridian green with cerulean blue. Thinned down, with a transparentizer.

For the  pink bits... Hmm....

Slight touch of alizirin crimson in the pinkish areas on the breasts and tummy.  (titanium white, add tiny speck of alizirin crimsons, and tiny spec of blue pthalo. perhaps a very small spec of cadminum yellow. Mix well.)

Sadly, model paint and oil paint are not the same things. I'd have to ask my friend about painting models.

Aye, that may be true. But the main problem is WHERE to apply these layers. The basic idea I have is "Leave the darker paints in the lowest parts and get gradually lighter to the top." So I try to mix the initial dark blue with lighter blue tones or even white step by step and layer for layer. However, it just looks so...unnatural when I do it. I dont know if dont thin the paint enough, or just apply the layers on the wrong places, but it just doesnt look right. Im gonna try again when I get home tonight, starting from the bottom again. If someones interested im gonna provide a few pics afterwards, altough I dont want anyone to scratch their eyes out in horror.

No. It is lightest at the bottom, then work up with dark when dealing with washes. :D

Thats...odd. About every guide, video and tutorial I saw about miniature painting started with darkest color as the base, especially when basing the Mini black. Also, I only used the wash because it worked for my Orks, where I wash the skin with a green color after applying all layers, which merged it all nicely together. With the blue wash however (Its "Ink" actually, from the Vallejo range, which is the equivalent to "washes" from Games Workshop) it didnt work, its probably not meant to be apllied to the entire skin area, but just the deepest parts.

Hmm.. Again, my experiences are with oil paint, where the refractory index of the pigment particles has a significant impact.

There's a reason why a blank canvas is white, and not black. Light has to go through the top layer, bounce around inside the bottom layer, then come back out the top layer again.

If you have lots of opaque white (which oil paint white is VERY opaque), it will bounce most of the light rays right off on the top, making the paint look very flat.

If your white does not translucify, you should probably treat it like oil paint white, and use it near the bottom of the light stack-- as part of the base paint color.

Huh.. First link I tried for washes on minis basically agrees with me-- Dark colors over lighter colors.

Washing is a technique that involves highlighting shadows by allowing a thin mixture of color that is darker than our base color to flow into the cracks, creases, and crevices of the figure.

The darker color should be very translucent, but darker in luminosity than the base.

This makes sense, actually.  :D

I will just try again this evening and torture you with the results, but thanks for the hints!
