That's... not how it works. Only because you find more of it, doesn't mean that there suddenly is more of it. It's always been there, you just weren't aware of it.

Speaking of internet rage, here's what's being advertised as "high-speed" around here:

Speaking of internet WTFs: http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2013/12/12/atts-high-speed-internet-in-austin-is-cheap-for-a.aspx
So, AT&T is now offering 300 Mb/s to compete with the 1Gb/s Google Fiber coming to the region. They have "Standard" and "Premier" pricing. Standard costs $100/m, Premier costs $70/m. Both give the same internet speeds. So what's the difference? With premier, you apparently are telling AT&T they can sniff all the info in your packets, figure out info about you like what websites you use and for how long, then send you ads. This is the same AT&T that also is bedbuddies with the NSA. :P

Meanwhile, Google Fiber costs $70 per month for 1Gb/s, and specifically states they do not do any of that questionable man-in-the-middle reading.

Oh yeah, and the original thing I came to this thread for: Cooking up some of that pre-made mac & cheese stuff in the microwave; go to take it out, burn my hand on the container, drop it, it flips upside-down, and splatters all over the kitchen floor. >_<

Oh yeah, the natural spin imparted on things dropped just happens to be perfectly tuned so everything does a half-flip before hitting the ground if dropped from bench/waist height; it's known as Buttered-Side-Down syndrome.

Yup. Another rageworthy issue is that even when the 1 gig isn't used, that is, when full speed should be possible, it's still unstable as fuck. And this is pretty much in the middle of the freaking city. Sure it's iniside a house, but goddamn it it has windows and doors nearby, it's not like I'm in a bunker. Moving my laptop half a meter to one side of the table should not murder my connection as it does now.
If it's in the middle of a city, and in particular if your apartment is filled with other people doing something similar, you may be falling victim to wireless interference. There may actually be nothing anyone can do, depending on the density of wireless transmitters, save switching to a wired connection (which sounds like an impossibility for you).

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

It's still fucking slow. There is no excuse, none, for our internet to be this slow. Aren't we supposed to be a great country? How can we be a great country with shitty internet?

People severely underestimate the amount of cost that goes into that kind of infrastructure when we're over 25 times the size of most comparable countries.

My home network needs some work. And by work I mean Google Fiber. Fuck you Google, come to the Triangle already. We're a tech center, why is that not enough for your cruel works?

Wouldn't it be nice, though, to upgrade the infrastructure of our country instead of wasting the money on the war machine for a while? I know, I know, I'm a dirty hippie, but if we scaled back the military to defense and let the UN/NATO take the role of world police, and legalized/taxed soft drugs, I think it would be doable. Think of the business applications!

And that's after it was doubled, twice. It was 0.32 on a fast day for years.

Edit: There is internet speed discussion in two threads. This confuses me.
