We're one of the nicest, peacefulest places in the internet.
The only truly sane places are the places in which every madman can be a madman.

Because it scares sane people away, and sane people are violent. We're not. We're just violent towards video game characters.

That makes we wonder: how many Bay12ers do some kind of martial arts?

I-I do a bit of karate...
But I'm very noobish at it.
I know this means nothing what with the changing belts, but what belt level are you?

Ah, that is kinda almost fairly nubbish then. Don't worry, right about then is when you start getting into the fun stuff (at least for my dojo).

They set it as defense training and by all means alot of do aim for sister, but considering my brother can knock my head off with a standing kick and my little sister can cause organ explosions im pretty sure we found the good classes. xD

I can remember reading somewhere that most places you learn martial arts teach the safer techniques, as opposed to all of them. Majority of martial arts involve bone breaking, disabling, and probably killing. S'pose they don't want you walking away knowing how to kill a number of random guys...
Well yeah. At my place they wait until you reach the really high levels until they actually teach you how to kill people (and they do eventually).

Well when you think about it... if someone attacked you with a knife and their arm was broken... they probably got off easy.

Did something called Shaolin Kempo for about a year, getting up to...purple belt, I think? Had fun, discovered that the style was one of the inspirations for Firebending, eventually stopped because I could no longer afford it.

Tried to get back into martial arts a few years later and nearly broke my ribs first night when I critically failed a forward roll. Stopped immediately after.

I use to take Tae Kwan Do when I was little, but stopped because it grew too tiring for me somewhere around purple belt. These days if it wasn't for them being all the way up in the city I would so sign up for classes at the Chicago Swordplay Guild, which does count since they also teach unarmed combat :3

Actually as I found out... martial art does include weapon styles.

It is Karate (empty fist or some such) that explicitly means without weapons. Not that there aren't some weapon martial arts based around disabling people without killing.

I did Aikido for a couple of years when a child. Part of the equipment was a wooden sword. Stopped because my master got a slipped disk and we later moved away.
