It isn't that Freeformschooler.

It is that I understand that sometimes a good friend is someone who can look you in the eye and tell you when you are doing something wrong. It is the person who can see that you are about to say something stupid and tell you not to say it.

But a good friend tempers that honesty.

The metaphor doesn't leave room for that. In fact it outright states that a "good" friend is one who will always say it.

Someone with Anorexia doesn't constantly need to be told they have a problem.
Actually, if someone has advanced anorexia, to the point where it might be life threatening, that is exactly what they need.

I'll leave that as up for debate. I will say that sometimes constantly badgering someone about their flaws sometimes aggravates it.

There aren't any guys worthy of a 'Alright' category?

"Good to date" doesn't mean that I think that I like you romantically at all, or that you're just my type, or something--it just means something like "if I found out someone was dating you, I would congratulate them rather than cautioning anything."  It is the alright category.

Kind of like the "warn others" category contains sociopaths, people with serious anger problems, and the list of known rapists.  It really is just about "I could go to this person if I were assaulted," "Who knows, it'd be a risk," "I would probably try to make sure this person did not know I was assaulted, ever, because it would be an unsafe situation," and "This person was probably the assaulter."

Bloody hell. You need to relax slightly. Not everyone guy who is bad to date is that bad, I know a few and although they're arseholes who take gfs for granted and all that, they're not that bad.

If you are basing it entirely on the word of the metaphor (which only describes one quality of a friend and nothing else about them) rather than the context it was being used in.

No, obviously a good friend does not literally act like a record player. They temper you like a fine blade until they feel you have reached your potential which may be never, but that doesn't mean they give up at it or constantly obsess over it.

Someone with Anorexia doesn't constantly need to be told they have a problem.

Also, Anorexia is a form of OCD, so pretending it doesn't exist or trying to hide it (common behavior for advanced OCD patients) may look like they actually don't know it exists. I agree with this.

Very true but they're not the worst. My uncle is bad. Hell, if I could afford it I'd probably fly back to England and beat the everloving shit out of him.

I don't think that is what vector is saying.

Mind you I'd say something longer but since it cannot be corroborated. PEACE! :P

Honestly I think I am biased because... I just don't like the metaphor. I think it is a terrible metaphor.

My computer appears as though it is beginning to die. This is not a good thing.

Out of an abundance of caution, I'm asking you all to drop this line of conversation. I'm going to lock the thread a while to make that point.

Is it just me or does these kind of things happen with increasing frequency?

What part, the calm and level discussion or the locking?

The latter.

And the former too. Which wasn't calm btw. Stuff has a tendency to escalate quickly on the internet. I don't know if it's people throwing tact out of the window, or some people being unusually reactive, but still.

Anyway, let's close off that topic and talk about something else.

I have no idea why I listen to my parents whenever they berate me whenever I am seeking assistance for anything.

For example when I had trouble breathing and now I am submitting applications for ADHD/ADD testing (that I may or may not have, but I've been asked to go through). Which they managed to guilt me out of finishing my papers in time.

It is my fault since I honestly shouldn't listen to them anymore... but it still makes me mad and sad at the same time.

Also yes... same people who constantly berate me for not having my hair brushed (when it is)... and the same people who berate me whenever I zip up my coat.

I think I might be a bit too sensitive.
