Google turned my Youtube account into a Google+ account (without asking me) and now my real name, profile, pictures, etc. are now public!

It's pretty clear how it is worse. It is removing usernames and replacing them with real names, where as Facebook doesn't allow them to begin with.

Huh? Seriously, they don't? I got a ton of FB friends with their names changed to fake, funny, in-jokey stuff. And not just in the "nickname" field. On G+, a friend of mine did the same thing (making her name a spaced-out version of her username) and was banned from the service within a day for violating real name policy.

If what you say is true then Facebook just isn't very good at enforcing it.

I somehow got around G+'s real name policy by deleting my G+ account when it caused my real name to become my Youtube name, I think doing something else when that didn't change anything (or maybe it did, it was while back and I don't remember the exact details). Then a G+ account was created later based on my email, which has my fake name, so I just rolled with it. At least I think that's how it happened.

Unfortunately, at this point deleting your G+ account will also delete both your Youtube and Gmail accounts.
