I spent 2 hours trying to buy Victoria 2 on steam through paypal and failed every single time. I kept getting authorization failures. When I finally found an alternative method of payment it went off sale.

Edit 4 hours later: tried it with 2 separate credit cards a few minutes ago and paypal. None worked, everything failed. I won't be touching steam with a barge pole for a while.

I... hate... moddb... and I hate that great mods decide to make use of them...

"The file you have selected (somefile) is not available via any mirrors."

First it was Stalker Complete which took almost two days for me to get.

Then it was that deus ex mod that I still have not been able to get.

And now the bloody 2.1 patch to Third Age Total War...

The file you have selected (TATW_2_1_Patch.exe) is not available via any mirrors.

Grumble grumble...

EDIT: Ok apparently the third age 2.0 version is obsolete now, the mod creator failed to mention this in the op for the mod though >< My previous two points still give me ample cause to rage on moddb though.

EDITEDIT: "The file you have selected (TATW_3.0_Part1of2.exe) is not available via any mirrors." ... sigh...

You might be able to download the appropriate patch files from links posted on the forums the mod uses. Hang on...

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?654-Third-Age-Total-War

They should be available there, one of the stickied topics will have the latest patches I assume.

Yeah the twcenter thread links to moddb :p Luckily there were a few users who had put torrents up for the files so I was able to get them.

This. Just fucking...this. I don't even watch porn. Sex is kinda...gross to watch. But that's my opinion, and you know what: The principle of the matter is greater. Censorship in the name of "protecting the children".

People who are fucked up will unhealthily react to anything. Don't treat the innocent like they're guilty.

People who aren't fucked up are *more* likely to become fucked up by a lack of avenue to explore things like their own sexuality in a private environment.

Children have always found a way, and many a porno mag has found it's way into the schoolyard. And many a porno mag will always do so. And kids will look at it. It's the natural order of things.

Censors on the internet *do not work*, and can be easily gotten around. Children are smart, those who want to will do this. But the censors also inevitably accidentally block innocent material. Again, you only punish the innocent here.

Make the censor opt-in at sign-up, not opt-out, and fully configurable by the owner. Give people power over their own homes and stop trying to control things you have no right to control.

Apparently one of my teachers (Discreet Mathematics one, to be precise) wants us (the students) to do 10 or so questions that only appear in the fifth edition of a book. Said book's fifth edition does not exist in the university library and in the only place I've found it on it's for sale at the low low price of R$250 (US$1 = R$2, or something near that). I've e-mailed her about it and her answer was simply "Is it not in the library?". So much rage.

-government bullshit-
Apparently hardly any ISPs actually want to go through with it, and have just been told to say that they've made the change without actually changing it.
But I learned this from 4chan so it's probably not entirely true.

But Ms Perry argued filters would make a difference, saying that the killers of schoolgirls April Jones and Tia Sharp had accessed legal pornography before moving on to images of child abuse.
And Hitler ate sugar, so obviously eating sugar will turn you into a genocidal dictator. Does she not realize that plenty of normal people watch pornography and never harm a single child?

Another issue is that one reason why "Violent" media cannot be directly linked to violent people is that they cannot prove direct causation.

So did the killers being crazy seek out pornography? Or did pornography push those people over the edge and make them killers?

It is impossible to tell.

Mind you I am someone who actually DOES believe that violent media actually does have the sort of influence where a child would become more violent. Yet I believe that the fix for that is the proper socialization of the child.

To understand why people hate the Star Wars prequels you have to first understand that for a lot of people the original trilogy was considered one of the "best" trilogies of all time. It is essentially a masterpiece in people's mind.

The prequels weren't bad, heck I enjoyed them, but to hold up to the original trilogy was a challenge.

As well certain aspects of the prequels people didn't realize were in the original. Jarjar binks for example is C3PO

Don't get me wrong... a Mediocre prequel trilogy of a "Masterpiece" trilogy... is terrible by comparison.

There's a difference between your comic relief being an erudite, prissy robot.....

Versus a Saturday morning cartoon character. C3PO appealed to adult humor. JarJar appeals the humor of 4-year-olds, who like funny voices speaking gibberish, big eyes and floppy body parts.
