Speaking of hospital software, words cannot describe how incredibly unintuitive the software we use for patient records is, and apparently it's actually considered one of the best in the business. There's another hospital we do pharmacy work for, and their system is so terrible that it's become a running joke that just logging in is a trial (and sometimes it is). Mr. Chairman, if you work with the Paragon system, I am so sorry.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”

And speaking of speaking of software...the company whose internal file transfer was so horrible, who I probably clocked 6 hours screwing with at least....

I guess they work on Saturdays. And shock, there were problems with the update. And who do they call. My boss, since they're one of our first customers, who calls a former tech support now dev who is nice and cranky, who ended up fixing it. Me? I was dead to the world. I feel pretty dumb, since I knew a few of these problems existed and are a result of the update scripts this guy wrote. Up until now I hadn't really reported them and just muddled through the problems. But yeah. Database updates not going through for no explicable reason (I manually applied about.....10 of them myself last night AFTER I left work, because of a feeling in the pit of my stomach something wasn't right.) And then issues with the script that reactivates all the users in the yard for updates (of which there are about 35 modules, times anywhere from 1 to 50 profiles. For these guys, they had about 10, 5 of which were probably old installs that weren't in use anymore. The point of this script is so you don't have to manually go through each profile to activate them for updates.)

So users logged in to errors, which they've basically been trained to call us immediately about. I know at least one install was perfect, because I was testing on it last night.

Blargh. So many freaking steps to these updates, so many places were expected behavior, silently, does not happen. After doing probably 5 of these updates without problems (on customers whose database we actually maintain in our network), of course, it has to go tits up at a customer whose been with us almost since the beginning, and who has always been a black hole of problems.

Oh well, at least I can finally go to the dev and explain that a) the update likes to not execute half of the database statements in it unless run manually (which makes no sense, because same query run through SQLYOG executes just fine), and the update activation script likes to miss two key components of the update when run.

Talking with teh boss I guess it was pretty minor in his eyes. I just feel bad people got woken up on Saturday to fix stuff.

Holy fuck. This RPG book is second only to FATAL when it comes to being terrible. But it's not even so bad it's funny! It's just awful. Just rule after rule implicitly punishing people for being raped in a book that claims to be feminist. What the fuck.

EDIT: Blech, okay, it may not explicitly claim to be feminist. However, it has so many of the trappings of what dumbasses think feminism is (matriarchal forces of good, sources of explicitly "feminine" power that turn out to be turning people on and being motherly, purely male enemies and female heroes, "promiscuity is equivalent to sexual liberation", and so on) that I'm reasonably confident that the author sure thinks it is.

So Dominatrix and S&M?

There is no one rule of feminism.

I mean a game where being raped is actually a really terrible thing to happen to you and your social life is ruined because of it? It sounds a lot like what actually happens after a rape.

MIND YOU!!! I know that isn't all. I am simply saying that, "Feminism" doesn't have the one doctrine of rape.

So Dominatrix and S&M?
They do call S&M an "aberrant sexuality", comparing it to pedophilia, among other things.

@Neonivek
That's not how they handle it. This is "Breaking your vow of chastity by being raped causes you to lose abilities until you go through a magical atonement ritual." Also, "realism" is not an adequate defense of a book that presents a woman's favored combat gear as a chainmail bikini sans the top.

Blegh, I'm wondering if I should be throwing trigger warnings on these posts?

Darnit I was hoping that the Lightning Thief movie's badness would have been recognized enough that they wouldn't adapt The Sea of Monsters.

I thank every God whose name I know that I have not, myself, read it. This is a product I was reading a review of, which I initially clicked on in the hopes that "The Sisters of Rapture" had something to do with Bioshock. Link to the review, to spare anybody the temptation of actually trying to find the book itself and risking giving the author money. Seriously, though, you might not want to read it. I've barely skimmed the surface of this piece of bullshit masquerading as a book.

Even FATAL has the "redeeming" "merit" of being the world's most dedicated performance of The Aristocrats. This doesn't even have that.

There is no one "They" and trust me... The idea that a woman is less then human because she has been raped isn't something some feminists avoid.

It is actually one of the viewpoints I consider to be strongly distasteful because it over-victimizes them.

Or to put it simply. There is no "one feminism" they are multitude of widely varying philosophies, sciences, and quasi-sciences.

Neonivek, you could not possibly have misinterpreted the antecedent of the word "they" more severely. I was referring to the author of the book. I understand that there is not one monolithic Feminism. What you seem to be misunderstanding is that this book couldn't qualify for anything that could fit under that umbrella.

You could just say "Neonivek, I meant the book. The Book doesn't do it that way"

and which case I would say "Opps, sorry"

At which point you would say "S'alright"

And then the little orphans would cheer because we would have gotten the money back before they demolished the orphanage.

But now thanks to your hostility the orphans have to sleep in the streets. HOW COULD YOU!?!

I apologize. You're right that I could have been nicer about it. I'm filled with rage over this thing being a book that people have paid actual dollars for, but that doesn't justify snark in your direction. However, it does justify continued venting at an author so blindingly rotten here that Old Testament Jehovah thinks this guy treats women a bit harshly.
