So the recent invasion of freaking kitchen bots is annoying. It's completely nonsensical and stupid to invade a games forum with links to a kitchen website. I really wish there was some sort of internet mercenary or thug for hire group that you could pay to rough up their site or something, to teach the bastards a lesson about marketing, preferably with internet fists.

They're probably using botnets, so who would you rough up?

This is what happens when you guys post and joke around in bot threads, you just encourage them and cause 503 errors when Toady deletes the threads.
I have never heard of forums getting errors when deleting threads, and the only thing I think that could cause it is some kind of server issue.

Besides, I like posting in spambot threads. It's not like the spambots are actively watching the thread, and then decide to post more because people respond. I don't think spambots are THAT advanced yet.

Then let's do one better:

Toady has asked everyone to quit dogpiling into spam bot threads, more than once.

If the db this forum is contained on has to lock the tables to do a delete, then yes, deleting threads would lead to errors because the table can't be read while it's locked for changes.

So yes, that is a thing that can happen.

The King's Crusade, a Neocore Game that's literally the King Arthur war game set during the Crusades. It's a series of short campaigns on a simple map, and some variations on their King Arthur RPG mechanics.

And just like King Arthur, this thing is a buggy, crashy piece of shit, even 3 years after its release. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since they must have practically ripped the code for this game from KA.

The things I've done for this game....first it wouldn't even launch the first mission because the launcher executable would crash. So after about an hour of research I turn my resolution down. Ok, that fixes it. I get well into the second mission and at the height of the battle, right as I've won it against seemingly impossible odds.....the launcher crashes.

I start a new game, screw up some army-related thing and go to reload. It crashes the instant I click "Restart Level." I start, again, and play probably 20 minutes without problems. Then, right at the height of the battle, when shit is seriously turning against me and I'm the most into game I can possibly be.....

CRASH.

God damnit, I want to like this game, just like I wanted to like King Arthur. I really do. It's a great Total War style game with cool themes and interesting RPG elements. But even on its best day, KA would do the exact same thing as King's Crusade: run fine for 20 minutes, wait until the action gets to its most critical point, and then leave itself as a big steaming pile on your desktop. Steam says I've played 3 hours, and in that time I've managed to finish the tutorial and one mission successfully. I've given this thing more time on my hard drive than it deserves.

And surprise surprise, it's a Paradox title. You'd think I'd have learned by now not to buy games they publish.

Outdoors yes, indoors only rarely. He spends part of his work time outside though, so it makes sense.

I'm not even actually angry. I'm so sick, tired, drained, and fucking... Apathetic, that I'm not angry about it. But I worked all fucking day, sick as a dog, just to get home and play a video game. I get home, and have to wait another two hours to play because of an annoying drunk bitch. Then, I finally get to play, and another player does some petty shit that, if I weren't dead inside right now, would have pissed me off.

Instead, I get to sit on the thought of the cold rage that should be simmering inside me, and now I can't play my favorite game because I am in a position of responsibility, one I am not going to abuse over petty crap that happened in the game.

Mind you, two hours ago, I was talking to one of my few friends about how I want to kill myself, and I gave a great long list of all the things in my life that are bad, unpleasant, untenable, or worrisome. A very long list. About the only thing not on the list was video games, but now they are. A rare rise of emotion comes to me now, and it's all I can do not to go break my OTHER hand punching inanimate objects. Fucking rage.

Hans ;_;  *hug*  admittedly I'm just another random voice on the internet, but don't do it D:  It sucks right now, but time and a new perspective will help shake things off.  A few weeks, a month from now, you'll look back on this moment and be glad you didn't kill yourself.  Life is full endless possibilities, many suck, many are good.  Depression is a bizarre thing, it seems like an endless void, but once you power through it you wonder how it could have been that bad.

My own rage, though probably not as bad: I've absolutely had it with one of my teachers, and I'll be withdrawing from her course as early as tomorrow.  She hasn't taught us a thing, and I'm truly disgusted that she calls what she does "teaching."  I'm truly disgusted with my school, and glad I'll be withdrawing a year before I'm supposed to graduate with them because the school sucks too.  And I expect my department head to try to convince me to keep taking the class and try all sorts of smokescreen tactics or right out refuse to sign the paperwork.  I will NOT attend another one of those classes.  And he will sign the paperwork for my withdrawl from the class.  And I will get a full refund from the school for that class, regardless of their policies about refunds.

Keep on trucking Hans, karma is due to give you some love soon.

Another school related rage.  A number of them actually, all related to the clusterkitten* that is Daytona State College class registration.

  • I had to take a lower level math class because I couldn't pass algebra.  (I was told that 40% of the students at the college don't pass this school's particular algebra program.)  I got permission from the chairperson for the swap, and was told that it will replace my remaining math requirement for my degree audit.   Trying to register for classes today the system is telling me that I still need algebra.   Call academic advising to see what I need to do to get in(basically a 1 minute Q/A) and the Academic advising department no longer advises over the phone.
  • After two years the course numbers on the degree audit STILL don't match the actual course numbers for registration, and for the 3rd time this year neither do the class names.  I speak to registration and they don't know what classes I need either.  At least last semester they seemed to had it figured out, but that leads me to...
  • I took computer programming "C++" Last semester, the course numbers did not match (again nothing unusual there) and the degree audit said I needed computer programming "C" which did not exist in registration.  With the help of one of the people in the registration department we came to the conclusion that the class was renamed, and signed me up for Computer Programming "C++".    Naturally now my degree audit says I still need Computer Programming "C" and that I have Computer Programming "C++" Unused in audit.   For those of you not familiar with this particular system, that means I was signed up for(by a DSC employee) and paid for, and passed, a class that had nothing to do with my degree.
I'm not sure whether the school is incompetent or simply malicious.   Oh well, I guess I have a couple reasons to see advising now.

*I visited another forum that replaces curse words with "kitten" I have taken to liking the style.

EDIT: Spoke to advising, answers:
1. You will have to speak to the chairperson about it, they can either force you in or put the swap on record.  Nothing we can do.
2. We know it's a problem.   (At least I got the proper course numbers and class names I needed)
3. You should have spoken to an advisor before taking the class if there was doubt.  We cannot give you a refund for a class taken to completion or give you credit for a class not taken.

This server is taking between 3 and 8 minutes to move a >100 kb file from the local file system into their DB.

At this rate, it's going to take 5 days to move 4,000 image files.

Goddamnit I HATE our customer's servers.

That's the thing. The files are local to the system the DB is on. It seems regardless of where we import these images from (the share drive, the actual drive the images are stored on) once it hits our image importer (which basically chunks the images before storing them in the DB)....it grinds to a halt. We've moved 4x the amount of images, bigger images, for other clients, without any slowness or problems like this. We even checked the resource monitor to see if the hard disk was pegged, if memory was capped, if the processor was pegged....nothing explains why this is taking so fucking long.

Yea why would you try to kung-fu a bee?  Bees are bros man, why would you want to harm a bee and even then use so much overkill?  The bee is just flying around being all cool and hover-y and then bam, you try to roundhouse kick one?

That bee is going to be so angry.  When the apocalypse happens and yer all full of super mushroom spores and you knock on his hive and ask for some royal jelly, don't think he won't remember that kung fu stuff you tried on him.
