So long as the light still works, you probably don't actually have to fix that. I mean, I drove for almost a year with the side of my car so smashed in that the doors wouldn't open, and the nose held on with gorilla tape.

That's a good point, actually. Plus, I live in the deep south, and having a bumped up car is basically redneck cred.

Now all you need is to slap some duct tape on there, wear a cowboy hat and skinny jeans, chew on a piece of straw, and put a gun rack in the window. The confederate flag would do it much more quickly, but you may be going overboard at that point.

Shit, what have I done. I've arranged to have my duct tape removed this very day!

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

No, Yahoo!, I'm not giving you my phone number so that I can play fantasy football. What's that? You won't even let me sign in without sending me a verification code to my phone?

Fuck you.

I feel like Bay12 needs a math thread, for tutorials and rage.

I made one a long, long time ago.

Not so much on the rage.  There's far too many people who like math in there for that.

I hate that.

My phone number is one thing I dislike handing out to companies. I only like to hand it out if it's some kind of service related to my money, because if something happens, they can contact me.

I get perverse joy out of paying for something at the register, and when they ask me for my email address/phone # I look at them levely and flatly say "No."

I know it's not the cashier's fault their company requires them to do it, but since I can't look their CEO directly in the face and tell him his data mining can go fuck itself, I have to settle for the cashiers. I mean shit, they already have my credit card/debit card #, they know that shit anyways. I'm not going to save them the effort of having to hunt it down themselves by just telling them.

Arrrghh, GOG keeps declining my purchases. My card has (just) enough money, unless PayPal tacks on an invisible fee to the transaction.

Some transactions put a "hold" on your account for x amount (usually a flat value like $50) in addition to your purchase, to ensure you have MORE than you need in your account to process the transaction. Once the transaction is approved, the hold is lifted. So that might be what's happening.

Is there any way to determine if that's true?

The last time I had just enough to buy something from GOG, this didn't happen, and I paid the same way: a disposable cash gift card(same issuer as well) via PayPal.

EDIT: I got it to work using my debit card. The same debit card I inexplicably cannot seem to add more money onto and yet can still buy stuff with, though.

Apparently someone (one of my best friends) who promised me housing three weeks ago didn't bother to check with her roommates and is now backing out by doing things such as, amongst other things, giving me a fake address.

Fuck you too, asshole.

What the shit? Why would somebody... I mean, okay, fucking up I can wrap my head around, but why would she give a fake address? There's no way that works out for her! Was she just hoping they'd go, "Hey, okay, move on in!", or what?

Because that way she says no without saying no.  She gets to agree on rent and "tell me the address" and agree on a move-in day, and I find out that she actually said no privately, in a way that looks like an accident.

I asked for the real address and she said they "wanted to have another meeting" and were taking a long time deciding.  So what she does is make it impossible for me to move in.  A pocket veto!
