That might just be shoddy DVD menu programming.

I didn't mean to imply a further agenda; I've said multiple times that modern network television tries to make comedy by using offensive jokes/subjects.

Ohh wait I remember...

Mego is referring to shows that are intentionally offensive with the goal of increasing viewership by making people hate it.

On the electronic security subject...

Was on the little sister's laptop, and a Screen showed up telling me I had violated laws against under-age porn, and my computer was being locked out. Only paying a fine within 2 days would allow me to re access it. Even had my picture from her little camera and everything

I know my laws, and I trust my government a bit more then the average dude. So I looked it up, is bullshit. ICE Cyber Crimes Virus, Advanced ransom-ware apparently. Locked it up good, cannot even start the damn thing without being locked out. Attempts to start in safe mode, whether regular, command prompt or networking were futile. This computer is one from her school, for work, so she is apprehensive about letting them deal with it, while simultaneously meaning she doesn't have admin access.

So, I think I found a solution in HitmanPro 3.7, which should disable it long enough for me to either see if a virus scan will find it, or try a system restore. Not sure it will work yet, but it's late, so I have to put it off to tomorrow.

Boot it with a Linux Live CD/USB, Google the virus and find out what/where its files are, and delete them with extreme prejudice.

The biggest problem was probably that it downloaded the entire virus before you knew what you had.

Beat me to it. There's no such thing as being able to infect and ransom cross-platform (yet). Go linux and dispense indiscriminate justice on the folders it lives in! >:C

Is it me or is electronic security simultaneously becoming increasingly overbearing and completely useless?
For the past 70 years, yes. Now it's digital and in 3D

Yeah, I had to clean that off one of my dad's friends' computer recently. Glad he knew it to be bull immediately, too, because it was fairly easy (just go into safe mode with networking and install some anti-virus software).

Hitman Pro works really well, and you don't have to know how to use Linux to use it.

I know all you d00dz love you some Linux, but it's a pain in the ass.

Most likely. That function is usually there to force you to watch the advertisements and the warning the the FBI will shove a [REDACTED] into your prostate while [DATA EXPUNGED] twist it around with a chainsaw if you copy the movie.

That said, most DVD players have controls for returning to the top menu and the root menu. I don't know what the difference is, but one usually works.

rogueamp probably has a video with removal guide on that one. I vaguely remember it. It's far from advanced compared to the new ones, those that encrypt your files.

E: he may have removed it in a way that you can't replicate, but I still recommend searching for it. Remember, Rkill will disable the process and MBAM removes almost everything.

E2: Oh, and don't be too quick on the "I had it too", there's about a dozen with roughly the same look.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.
