I have a customer who is a serial interrupter. The guy loves to cut me off mid-sentence, especially when he think he knows better than I do. "No, no no it's!----oh wait, yeah, maybe you're right." Talks a million miles a minute regardless of the importance of the issue, like he's mainlining a dripfeed of crystal meth.

It's like, you realize I'm trying to help you, right guy? Quit fucking yelling at me and interrupting me.

Yes, I get it Mr. Man. You're 10 years older than me and worked with databases when I was still getting out of high school. You still don't know shit about mysql, and watching me change fields in SQLYOG doesn't make you a sql master. There's a reason we only gave you SELECT privileges on your account. So please, let me finish my fucking sentence, on the strong possibility you don't know wtf you're talking about.

Also, bitching to me that one of our applications runs in a CMD window makes zero difference, because I'm not a developer. And even if I was, that's the kind of suggestion I would tell you to STFU about. Should be refactored as a service? You're probably right. Going to do that for us? No? Then shut the fuck up. Christ.

This made me realize that the only thing even remotely sexual that my parents told me about was what menstruation is. (AKA: Why do your sisters not do certain stuff sometimes without any apparent reason).

I cannot imagine getting actual sexual advice from my parents.

My parents gave less fucks than most.

I was automagically logged out by parental controls to stop me staying up late, and my dad had some kind of program that kept a permanent record of what I browsed on the internet until he deleted it (But this may well have been little more than a threat)
They weren't put back after the computer formatted itself.

And when it came to sexual stuff, parent's didn't go out of their way to stop me learning about it, nor did they try to get me to learn about it. They simply answered questions I asked. First one being 'What's that lion doing to the other?' when my parents were watching a documentary.

I was apparently disgusted when I learned that was how they made babies, and that humans did it, too.
My parents just handed me a book off handedly one day that explained about sex.  I am very, very much glad that they did that, instead of trying to do any sort of talk.  And my parents installed parental security, but I have ways around.  Such as knowing the password, reformating my computer to get rid of the software, and changing my password everytime I have to give it to them in the name of not wanting to get hacked.

Yeah, I got the cutesy kid's book explaining sex. It had cartoony but anatomically correct illustrations. That solved the basic stuff, and left them time to focus on "don't get a disease" and "don't get a girl pregnant by accident."

Ha ha. Everything I learned about such things I learned from library books and the internet. No parental talk or guidance, no school related stuff, not even any social cues picked up about the subject. Just... wandering around literature and varying other things online and in text. And, y'know. Fanfiction.

It's... ended up a lot better than a lot of people seem to, honestly. And a hell of a lot better than it could have. Some days I wonder how it happened. I mean, I'm not complaining, s'ended up with a fairly healthy view of things. But you're supposed to end up some kind of freak of nature when left to your own devices like that or... something. That seems to be the implicit message I see a lot, anyway.

At least it's left me with the ability to occasionally terrify people by being able to truthfully say that almost everything I know about love I learned from porn and fanfiction.* That's something.

*The trick is to derive your lessons from the really good stuff!

My parents didn't bother, as they shouldn't have. I always tried my best to learn everything about a subject after first discovering it, and any attempts at education would have been a bit late. They never seemed very worried, probably because it was plainly obvious that I wasn't going to get involved in sex anytime soon. If anything they were worried about me being too apathetic.

Ha. I got the "You do know that gay people exist? And you should be careful to avoid them." speech when I went off to college at 17. Not really a speech, more like a sentence. That was it. That was the extent of what my parents told me.

Of course she only ever met 2 of my girlfriends years after that, and she only knew about one of them, I have not told her yet that I every woman I ended up dating was bi.

I'm not sure, but I think I sorta knew it instinctively how and where babies come from. Or just pieced it together over time.

I lost my Russian website that sold Mosin-Nagants and their bullets. It included a scope, bayonet, and a dog collar sling.
BUT NOW IT'S GONE FOREVER!
still got craptons of spamcans full of 7.62x54 lying around
I don't believe they allow mass shipping of bullets to random people, and I would still need a gun to use them "safely".
(Throwing them into a fire is not considered safe.)
Clearly, you should play Cataclysm.

I never got the speech, by the time it came to it I'd already learned it all. Growing up alongside the internet probably helped with that one...

Nowadays my parents are just concerned that I'm so uninterested in it. I've tried to explain asexuality to them, but it's just not something they seem capable of understanding. "I just want you to be happy" with the undertones they don't believe someone can be happy without at least an interest in sex and pursuing relationships as a means through which one gets sex...kinda sad, really. My mum mostly seems to be of that opinion, or at least more vocal of it, though she may just be at the "I want grandchildren" stage of ageing, and since my sister is still far too young for that to happen in the next five years... -__-

I'm guessing your parents are less worried about your lack of interest in sex, and more worried about your lack of interest in a close, personal relationship. Sex only makes up about 2% of an actual relationship. The rest is, you know, having a personal connection to someone on a deeper level.

Not so sure about the personal connection part. Of the two longest lasting marriages I know, one was had by two that grew to hate each other over the decades, but stayed married for their children. The other they were happy to live together for decades, but their relationship can be summed up on a trip to Israel where they were detained and questioned by security. They were asked questions like 'where did you first meet.' The husband got every question wrong, and was wrecked by his wife. Security let them through, because they knew they were definitely married :P

I said a deep personal connection. I didn't specify what kind of connection it has to be. :P

Personally the romance is the part I'm interested in, it's more the idea other people have that such a thing is inherently intertwined with sex that I just find perplexing, that a relationship is about sexual attraction as much as emotional and if you can't experience the former then you can't have a "real" relationship. I mean, for the 'sexual' the increasing openness of our culture towards sex is a positive thing, but the downright refusal by many to accept the existence of someone distinctly not 'sexual' is...scary at times, and shows how far we still have to go. Invisibility ain't good for anyone.

I'd like to be able to say "I'm not interested in sex" without the default response being "You haven't had sex with me" or "Get your hormones checked", but I guess people as a whole are still so culturally insecure about the subject. None the less, only so many times you can be told those things without it making you rage inside.

Actually, I feel much the same way. The important part is the relationship, not the sex (granted, sex is still good, but it's much better when it's with someone you already care for). And now we're back to my cake metaphor.
