Apologies. It's just kind of maddening when your teacher completely glosses over known quirks and differences in human societies and paints this bizarre neo-Hegelian portrait in which humankind eats the apple of Patriarchy, gets kicked out of the pre-agricultural garden of Eden and has thereafter been working towards salvation by Empowering Identities.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Yes Sociology is, in addition to being young, also very Western in its perspective. I was taking a bit of Anthropology in college too, and those professors had nothing but contempt for Sociologists, pretty much for the reasons you're stating. Then again, Sociology is a forward-looking science. Anthropology is backwards-looking.

Heh. That actually does sound like some of the worser stuff I saw coming out of the anthropology department. Love those guys to bits and they're trying hard, but they just popped out of the womb and even the philosophy critters are laughing at them for bullshitting too much... and us folks over the philosophy department basically have afternoon rhetoricbullshit tournaments in between the actual academic work.

Some of their good stuff is pretty good, too, but a lot of the stuff I've ran into so far has some hella' just-so problems. Definitely need to poke at the field again at some point to shake some of that bias off, but until then I'll indulge in a laugh or two :P

A mosqito is pestering me. Several bites so far, the most annoying ones are on the arms and fingers, itching like fuck and there's not much I can do about it.

When I get my hands on that little piece of shit.

I WILL SUCK THE BLOOD OUT OF YOU YOU LITTLE ASS!!!! YOU HEAR ME!!!! YOU ARE GOING DOWN!!!!!

Mosquito called, she said, "But you're so delicious! And I'm pregnant!"

My rage of the day; My mother was bathing the dogs out back, and hadn't closed the door all the way, so as soon as mom let go of my puppy she bolted for the door, and charged through the house, covering everything along the length in a long puddle of dirty water. She's a big, short-legged aussie shepherd so her poofy-ass hair can hold like two gallons of fucking water and time-release it. Worst part is, as soon as you look at her, whether she's in trouble or not, she plants her ass on the ground and starts scooting along, so the floor only got the worst of it when mom called her back and I had to pick her up and haul her out manually.
She'd make a great fucking sprinkler. Too bad she only works as a mop if she was dry beforehand.

I feel your pain. My aussie has the habit of jumping on peoples' heads, despite the fact that she weighs 50 or 60 pounds.

Wait, Frumple, you live in the States, right? Which one?

I've seen a fellow walking around with a walking stick a few times, if memory serves me, but it might just be coincidence or someone else with an affection for wooden walking aids.
Down in Florida. It was somewhat sporadic usage, but yeah.

If you frequent the Dells, you might bump into me in a month-ish.  Of course, that might be a bit awkward, as I don't know you at all.
