A correct proof can not be refuted. That is why it is a proof.

Humanity has an astounding gift for the rejection of proofs.

Thus demonstrating their irrationality.
Or your irrationality, by rejecting their proofs.

I'm the kind of person that, if I can prove I'm right and the other person is wrong (and especially if they're being belligerently wrong), I will storm the fucking gates of Heaven.

You and me, RedKing.  Hehe.  Sorry they stopped your march to the sea.

Got this twice in the last hour, just because I'm passing the time with videos. So sick of unnecessary captchas.

Only if their proofs are correct. Most conspiracy theories don't even attempt proof. Many that do are not correct proofs. Every once in a while, conspiracies do happen. And even more rarely, they can be proven.

My point is that it is equally possible that your perception of what is proof and what is not is false.

edit: depyramidification!

My point is that it is equally possible that your perception of what is proof and what is not is false.
The assumption that it is "equally possible" is only valid if the probability distribution between those two points is identical.

Cayenne powder is way more potent than I expected.
And delicious! Unlike some spices, it isn't just a spectrum of fire, it has its own taste to it.

The beauty of the fully-over-the-line-postmodernism-argument is that once you jump into the reality-is-subjective bandwagon there's not a probability distribution anymore.

I do believe you are confusing "reality is subjective" with "perception is subjective". (To be fair I don't know about postmodernism, but I was a part of the quote stack, so I must assume I am the one this was pointed at)

It's not a philosophy that has much practical use, but it is one that urges a person to attempt to correct for mistakes in their perceptions and to fix their mistakes, so that one might hopefully have a better and more accurate understanding of the world. Plus, it tells you that people in many cases aren't evil(or whatever is evil from your perspective), but simply have a different perception of the world from you, and I'm all for understanding and forgiveness.

it's not about what you believe, you already have a pretty good idea of that. This is about what other people believe. It's about trying to examine things from a new perspective, and not only find out what your opponents believe, but why they believe it. Subjectivity is just as important as objectivity when you want to converse with people. Otherwise, it just turns into a "You don't believe what I believe so you are stupid!" situation.

I agree, most of us can't make singing rockets either. Unless you count them screaming through the atmosphere towards a fiery doom as singing.
