I've had too many bad experiences with windows to have any important stuff on it. :/

I don't see why it's so dangerous unless you're on an FBI watchlist or something. Keep MBAM and a good AV handy and don't google for hairy russian porn and you should be good.

Five years ago now, back in Uni, I lost two months worth of notes due to a virus despite Avira antivirus and periodic runs of malware bytes. I gave a try to linux the following summer, and was satisfied, so that's my normal working environment (well, except when I'm at work. But the lousy programs that we have at work, combined with poor server management and old virus ridden XP machines makes me loathe that OS even more, if possible)

At the moment I'm sticking to Ubuntu with a lxde frontend (I hate Unity). I tried going to "harder" distros, but    the gains weren't big enough to justify the trouble. And I don't have all that much time anymore. In fact, I should probably be doing a boring .pps slideshow for next week

More QIP fun!

We just had a big meeting about it with our manager.  Apparently the new hires, who have been here about 3-4 months now, had not been told a single thing about this until now.  We were even under a "testing phase" where QIP was in effect in a roleplay sense, without the consequences attached, and they still hadn't heard of it until now. 

So the manager does a review of everything that counts as a QIP error, and then asks if there are any questions... as if that's everything there is to know about it. 

I break the question "So is it still a written warning on the 3rd QIP error?  They didn't change that?"

He gives a half-guilty, half 'expected-that-from-you' smirk and responds "Well... we weren't supposed to (finger quotes) 'focus on it', but yes.  They kept that the same"

And that opened up a whole floodgate of questions from the new hires.

So upper management has gone so far as to coach lower management to avoid telling people about the full terms of the policy that involve how much of a danger it is to their employment, so they won't get upset.  The attitude this place has towards its employees just amazes me...

My mother told me my sister would be staying in my room for just one night. That was 4 days ago. Last night, she gets home around 9:30-10:00, around the time I go to bed, and talks somewhat loudly on the phone for a while. Meanwhile, I'm trying to sleep. She leaves around midnight, and I don't hear her leave, and I didn't notice, because she left the light on.

STUPID ERASERS ON THE BACK OF PENCILS. WHY MUST YOU A) SUCK OR B) FALL OFF CONSTANTLY.
RAAAGGGEEE.
The ones they come with, or those stupid replacement cap erasers? The ones a pencil has normally are usually alright, depending on the brand. The bookstore I work at doesn't even stock the cap erasers, though. We do have those classic large pink block erasers, though.

What? They have extremely harsh workplace regulations, and don't even tell their employees the rules? Seriously?

I expect that company to go under if it can't retain workers, especially if they expect the same productivity from newbies-with-a-gun-to-their-heads.

Well things have come full circle.  When I started attending the Art Institute of Seattle, I got a few bad teachers who were nice but pretty awful at teaching and knowing the material.  Now I'm going into an advanced class and the teacher knows the material inside and out, but he's utterly full of himself and has a massive ego.  He doesn't ask for critiques, he jumps right in without even a "hello."

The guy even told me to "go find a workstation" when I was standing in the hallway, responding to a text from a friend.  Didn't even say hello.  And when I said was headed home after I finished what I was doing, he rolled his eyes.  Seriously? o_O

I feel I should apologise on his behalf, being very guilty of a bad attitude like this towards my students most of the time.

I expect that company to go under if it can't retain workers, especially if they expect the same productivity from newbies-with-a-gun-to-their-heads.

It's a large corporation.  Fortune 500.  Placed in Forbes top 10 most admired companies for several years straight.  Breaks profit records every year.

And the only explanation for their success is market share and harsh exploitation of the workforce, because I can tell you firsthand that their operations are horribly inefficient.

I forgot you can burn things while baking. Most of the things I make have like 20-30 minute windows before they get burned, but not bacon.

Post all relevant info absolutely everywhere. Bay12, reddit, 4chan, facebook, everywhere with tons of traffic. Make is as difficult as possible for them to scrub everything off the face of the internet. Encourage people to take screenshots, use any videos you have, documents, and whatever other evidence you can think of.

Now if it's actually illegal and can get you in trouble with the law, then it's a bit more tricky. I'm not going to claim to be an expert on this.

I feel I should apologise on his behalf, being very guilty of a bad attitude like this towards my students most of the time.
Sometimes a smile, some patience, some understanding and some encouragement make the difference.  As a teacher, it's probably hard to remember what being a student was like.  For many students, especially at college level, literally every single waking hour is being dumped into school or part-time job and for many students they're having trouble passing regardless of how much time they put into it.  They're often frustrated and scared, and treasure what little enjoyment they can afford between assignments.

I work as a writing tutor at the school I go to, and I encourage everyone I can as much as I can.  Many people come in saying they're terrible writers, when in fact they're only grappling with one or two issues that their teacher blew out of proportion and the student just honestly needs someone to sit down with them and explain the issue in plain English.  Other than that, they're great at crafting good work and often have a developing style.

Nnyyeaaah. Even baking, cooking bacon doesn't take that long (<10 min, iirc, even at fairly low temps. It's been a bit.), and you basically have to sit and watch it. Which. There's no way to cook bacon besides microwaving that I'm aware of that not being true. Bacon cooks fast and burns faster.

Candied bacon sounds delicious, though. I tend to lightly baste cooked bacon with syrup or honey. So. Damned. Good.

Though, if you think they're instituting measures designed to allow them to remove people at leisure then... what do you have to lose?  :-\
