There's actually a lot of "research" companies that try to keep track of who's downloading what torrents in the hopes that if laws change and they can be used against people en mass, they'll be able to sell them for a high price.
Because people who download things for free are obviously willing to pay a lot of money for stuff.  ::)

Now, if they were keeping track of stuff and noticed that people were downloading something not legally sold in their area, and decided to try offering it at a somewhat reasonable price, I could understand. I don't actually torrent, I'm just mad at them for their shitty marketing sense.

No, they want to sell the records to someone who wants to prosecute the people who download stuff. The torrenters aren't getting sold anything.

Oh, right, making money off the legal system. What the hell happened to companies just producing goods and services?

So my university is having us vote on a referendum that would increase everyone's tuition so that athletes don't have to pay extra for equipment and venue usage.

This shouldn't even be an issue. You want to do something extra-curricular, you pay for it. Don't try to freeload off of the students who actually are here to get degrees and have careers.

Shouldn't their sports scholarships cover stuff like that?

That's what I thought. Hence more reason for me to vote against it.

And here I was thinking that we had it bad with a mandatory tuition hike to pay for a third library dedicated almost entirely to housing twenty year old computers and turning the second library into a second student center that nobody will use.

I'd like to see their faces when they find out that people can't be charged guilty for crimes committed before they became illegal.

They might have a case that, since it IS illegal, they're just not allowed atm to prosecute so many, that ex post facto doesn't count.

Right?

Right?
Well no, they're arguing that they did so while it was still legal.

Can't prosecute so many? Have you even HEARD of the war on Drugs? I tell you, it's alot of fun prosecuting people. but they will probably fine everyone. Thousands of dollars.

We have our own resident victim of the war on drugs on these forums.

EDIT: This guy enrages and confuses me.

Basically, he says that black people are performing genocide on white people by... *drumroll* IMMIGRATING!
I'll use my favorite anti-Social Darwinist Maxim: If they are replacing/conquering/Conspiracying/out-breeding us, doesn't that make THEM better?
