D key broke off my keyboard, and the little clip that holds it in place snapped too

This, most likely.  :P

I've already worn halfway through S :P
The entire key snapped off, and the little clip that holds it in place is broken. It makes it mildly complicated to type quickly

Oh, right. No, I've been avoiding steam for ages, I'm not about to download it now. :P
Now, if only Gamersgate actually worked, so I could buy the original X-Com...

Steam is a good service.  If all you're going to do is play a free game on it, you have nothing to lose but maybe some sort of stubborn pride.  I promise it won't leave any malware residue behind to eat your computer when you uninstall it.

...I think you just hit on the heart of the issue. :-\ It's bad enough that I was about to download and play TF2 after years of calling it silly, I'm not going to change my stance on Steam as well!

You do realize how ridiculous you sound, right?
This. There is nothing wrong with steam. It's a great service. Also easy to keep up with friends and such. I had only very few problems with it.

You should see the Paradox Interactive forums, most of them seem convinced that using steam will tear asunder your very soul.

I'm Keanon on there btw~ If any fellow Paradox modders are out there~~

Steam is a great way to find, buy and download games. It is also a minor form of DRM. But it isn't drm tacked on as an after thought to infringe on the users. You get actual value out of steam.

Plus, you can set alot of other games to use the steam overlay so you can happily chat whwile playing non-steam games fullscreen.

And most importantly, Steam uses it's DRM to benefit the customer - they can delete and lose games all they want while maintaining access. You can play the game on multiple machines, effortlessly. Your entire library is instantly transferred to a new computer.

It's very nice.

My only problem with it is that it still doesn't have a 'nix version.

They are working on that IIRC. But i think that many games don't work on linux. Not something valve can do much about.

My biggest beef with Steam was the offline mode issue. Now somebody ate that beef and I'm mad because now I'm hungry.
