Oh, it isn't designed to WORK as stated. It's to undermine the illusion of authority she holds. Either she agrees, in which case you can say "Yeah, you agreed. You were told. Your fault you forgot, I'm going." Or she doesn't agree, in which case "Why not? You've already agreed, it's just a formality so you don't forget. Unless you're going to back out from your word."

Steam is a good service.  If all you're going to do is play a free game on it, you have nothing to lose but maybe some sort of stubborn pride.  I promise it won't leave any malware residue behind to eat your computer when you uninstall it.

...I think you just hit on the heart of the issue. It's bad enough that I was about to download and play TF2 after years of calling it silly, I'm not going to change my stance on Steam as well!
