Is joke science?
Is joke real life?
Is joke fantasy... Is joke caught in a landslide?
Before I saw you weren't misko I expected bees in that list. :P

Ran out of bees, made room for science though.

My English 3 GT teacher, and the whole GT program in general.  She first gives us 50 vocabulary words to study each week, all obscure Latin roots or words that no one uses, along with a five paragraph essay either based on one of those words, or containing at least 20 of those words, due the next day.  Then we have to read some piece of American literature, and we almost always have some sort of essay or writing assignment hanging over are heads.  (Like right now we have to write a five stanza poem that parodies The Raven).
And you also have the whole Gifted and Talented program in general.  All it is is extra work without any sort of benefit.  All it does is help destroy your GPA, but your parents won't let you drop out of it, because it would be "lowering" yourself.  I sincerely doubt that anyone in my class actually wants to stay in that class.

That... sounds like you might have a pretty terrible gifted teacher. Classes I went through... man, part of middle school was spent playing starcraft, in class, for class credit. Logic puzzles, art projects... lot of interesting stuff, most of it at a higher level than you'd normally be getting on that grade level, but it was pretty well introduced. Literature, you did stuff like discuss the elephant and the blind men thing and junk. I got to bring the pet boa constrictor to school once because of that class, due to a period that gifted lessons were rain forest themed. Was something similar for Egyptian mythology, several varying things like that. All in all pretty awesome.

A challenge needs to engage, not just stand there like a wall or a nuisance.

E: Teach might be heavily constrained by program guidelines or somethin', though. Forgot about that possibility; the teach I had going through the gifted program (mostly the same one for the whole time) had enough pull in the system she could mostly get what she wanted done, done.

The gifted program was pretty awesome, that's how. I'd blame my mother being the teacher, but it was pretty much along those lines before and after she was th'gifted teacher, and I didn't have much influence as to the subject matter.

Might have had something to do with the size of the program, I'unno. I think there might have been like ten students at the program's largest? Maybe fifteen some of the years I wasn't in the program, can't quite remember.

How it works where I live is that GT is done though the English courses in high school.  In middle school it was fun, since it was a dedicated class and you got to do challenging stuff.  Unfortunately, all GT is now to our teachers is an excuse to give us more work.
And in Integrated Business Applications last year I was able to finish all my work in less then 15 minutes each day, so I just played Nethack or Dwarf Fortress the rest of the time off my flash drive.  In the Web Design class someone managed to install Halo 2 onto the computers.  And at our rival school someone managed to install America's Army.

Also, was it starcraft, brood war, or SCII? Because if it was the last one I'd like to know how that managed to run on the same stock school computer all the labs seemed to be made of. :)

Starcraft... about a year or so after its release, iirc. I think we did eventually upgrade to BW after a while. This was a bit back :P

And yeah Falc, that definitely sounds like a downgrade. Make learning a chore and it becomes one, etc., etc., etc.

Exactly why I hate half my classes.
Such as biology.  Biology teacher- "Why aren't you taking notes?" Me- "Because I already know about how electrons behave in response to other particles, and how protons have +1 charge and everything." Biology teacher- "Well you didn't make a 100 on the last test, so if you don't have every word written down by the end of this period you'll have lunch detention" (Note- we were going over how there are things called subatomic particles in an atom, and the last test was on cell theory, which I would of made a hundred on, but he took off points for spelling.)
The only classes I have that I actually like are my World Geography and Chemistry classes, since as long as we can justify our answer on a test, and show why we consider it to be correct, we can get it right.  Plus we get to play with thermite and magnesium, and you can never go wrong with that.

Next someone is going to say they have Command and Conquer installed.  That will complete the trinity of early RTS games.

How do those games get installed on there, exactly?
