I keep telling people, you have to take down the Flagship's systems. The weapons, especially the missile launcher, are premium targets since they can't be repaired once the crewmember on it is killed. Your ship's total inability to deal direct system damage is what killed you. If you had a boarding drone, a crew teleporter, or even a bomb/missile weapon you probably could have made it. what Also, while the Flagship will indeed switch to AI control if all the crew are killed, their deaths mean that none of the ship's systems can be repaired. Keeping their O2 and Medbay down with a constant barrage can be just as effective as taking down shields.

My mom recently told me that apparently they found a 'cure' for Asperger's, as if that's something I'd actually be interested in. It may just be that she doesn't realize that if my Asperger's were to be 'cured', I'd be a fundamentally different person, but I still find it insulting.

Yeah I'd find that insulting as well.

When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

If my doctor is correct and I do has AS, I would find that insulting as well.

Actually, it's insulting anyways, just because you do have it and she's telling that to you. Besides, AS is neurodevelopmental disorder, there is no 'cure'. It's a fundamental difference in the way that the brain is wired, you cannot cure that like a disease.

Oh yes, I've had people talk to me about being "cured" before... It's always a joy to have to explain to them that it's not something you cure, anymore than you cure the human condition.

I think maybe one day I might wind up writing a book about aspergers, if I ever fulfil that dream of becoming a writer... I don't think there's ever been a book that does it right.

The next edition of the DSM isn't even going to include Aspergers, so...

The only definite "cure" I can think of is lobotomy.  :P

One would think, this day and age of cellphones and Facebook, Narcissism would be more relevant than ever.

Oh god. Narcissism. My sister is a narcissistic little twerp. Not clinically, mind you, but still.

I lent her my camera before I got her a camera last Christmas. When I got my camera back, she had filled it up with pictures of herself. Good thing I can delete all the pictures on my camera at once.

Disease = caused by microbes

Disorder = genetic/behavioral brought on by outside factors, but absolutely not by microorganisms

Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

'But it's a disease! We will be able to cure it!'
'It's as curable as your idiocy-it just isn't'

I think I'll use that one. I know more than a few people who would benefit from this explanation.

Not quite.

dis·ease

noun /diˈzēz/
diseases, plural

A disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, esp. one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury
        - bacterial meningitis is a rare disease
        - a possible cause of heart disease

A particular quality, habit, or disposition regarded as adversely affecting a person or group of people
        - departmental administration has often led to the dread disease of departmentalitis
Quote

Quote
dis·or·der

noun /disˈôrdər/
disorders, plural

    A state of confusion
        - tiresome days of mess and disorder

The disruption of peaceful and law-abiding behavior
        - recurrent food crises led to periodic outbreaks of disorder

A disruption of normal physical or mental functions; a disease or abnormal condition
        - eating disorders
        - an improved understanding of mental disorder

So technically speaking, yes, Aspergers is both a disease and a disorder, just an incurable one. Of course, following the publication of the next DSM Aspergers will cease to exist as a recognized aspect of the Autistic Spectrum, so the point is moot.
