Yeah, that isn't very functional.
Unless you're looking for expensive and inefficient population control.

So, as I mentioned in the happy thread, I came out to my parents. My mom's reaction is already covered in that post. I'm going to cover my stepdad's reaction here.

More or less, it consisted of a veiled insult ("At least I know where my ethics stand."), followed by him outright saying that what I am is wrong, followed by the obligatory "If god want guys to fuck guys, he'd give them tits and a snatch" line. And threatening to tell my grandmother (Whom he hates. I mean, absolutely loathes.) that I was bi before I could do it on my own terms, just to spite me.

Gah.

He always did sound like a twat. If you can move away, now would be a fantastic time to do so.

Hopefully that was mostly a response due to shock.

Sometimes it takes parents a while to come around, thinking they somehow failed you.

I had to deal with some shit like that when I told my mother I was an atheist.

Yah, but I'd have to find a place. My grandmother's said before that I could move in with her, and she is somewhat progressive for her age, but I don't know how she'd handle me admitting that I'm bi.

No, this is pretty much par for the course for my stepdad.

See, if he wants to tell her just to spite her, you may as well do it before he can. Age tends to grant wisdom, so she should be understanding even if she personally does not agree- generally anyways.

The only problem is that I have to wait until I see her again. She lives at least 45 minutes away, and telling her over the phone seems so cold and impersonal. So I'm kind of at a disadvantage here.

Hrmm. I see.

Your mother will probably understand your position, and should be able to come to terms with it, even if it takes her some time. Your stepdad, however, may never do so.

What matters is that you are you, and always will be. If he cannot come to terms with that, he has no right to call himself your stepfather.

You are indeed at a disadvantage, when will you be able to visit your grandmother next?

Probably next weekend, if I can remember to call her to see if she's gonna be busy or not.

I don't understand how these sort of people exist in the western world. The mind boggles.

Vorthon, I'm sorry for your troubles. :( I hope everything turns out okay.

Break the news gently, like I did with my dad.
MZ: "Got something to tell you. I have to admit, I like dudes."
Dad: "Wha?"
MZ: "I mean, I like women, too. I just...had to get that off my chest."
Dad: "So, you like dudes."
MZ: "Yes."
Dad: "And women."
MZ: "Yes."
Dad: "At the same time?"
MZ: "Whenever possible, yes."
Dad: "Close enough."

Man I wouldn't know how to take the "close enough" :P Still hilarious though.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
