I don't think a lot of people realize that Hartman was intended to be a dark satire of Drill Sergents. You aren't a successful Drill Sergent if you drive one of your recruits to homicidal insanity.

Most of Hartman's dialog was actually written by Ermey. I don't know if they even intended Hartman to be that dark, but that's where Ermey took him.

Got a paper back from one of my professors who apparently doesn't understand the difference between "I drew an interpretation of the work that includes this concept/belief." and "I believe this myself."
