2 weeks or so ago I called all the laptop repair places close by and got a quote for replacing the DC jack of my laptop,  2 or 3 places quoted me $100, Thats fine, but I didn't have the money.
Now I do have the money, but I don't remember what places quoted me those numbers, since I just called a bunch of random shops and didn't write anything down.  I did the same search as I did 2 weeks ago and got what presume to be the same list of repair shops, I called around, two say $200, one says $180, and the rest didn't answer their phone.
I'm considering buying a solder and the part and dong it myself. >_<

I would like to make the notion of don't do that for your safety and your laptop's health. What's your brand and model?

theres alot more on ebay but i went for this one cause its got the ASUS logo stamped on it. You can pick whatever you want just remember this: cheaper the product the shittier the quality usually.

double edit: i'll talk to my boss tomorrow and see if we can work on it for less than 200.

I was tempted to do it myself, because it should be a simple solder, and I've soldered things before.
But I think I decided I'm going to take it somewhere and spend 150 - 200 to get it fixed, because it's an expensive laptop.
