Well to take my ex's advice, start commenting on Mother's weight and weight will be a taboo subject before you know it ;)

I have a little bit of fat on my thighs and stomach.  Not enough that anyone but my mother or other hard-core pro-skinny people would bother picking at it, but enough to be ashamed of ::)

Meh.  It's all right, I guess.
They're using you as a proxy for their own complexes, and it seems like you realize that yourself, so why are you letting them? You look slim and healthy on the photos I've seen.

Thanks Vector, you reminded me of something...

I was watching Biggest Loser (American version). I don't do that a lot, but I was bored silly. One of the guys, someone who had already lost a lot of weight, climbed on the scale and had lost 5 pounds. 5 pounds in one week! Congra...

wait.

He's not happy. He looks a bit down. His team looks at him disappointedly. "It's too little", their expressions read.

Seriously, losing five pounds in a week is *not* too little, especially if you're not morbidly obese and this man wasn't. I think that's already more than the doctors would allow one to lose during a week. I don't know whether the guy was eliminated or not, but seriously... losing five pounds in a week shouldn't be a disappointment! Anyone watching that show may get confused about the proportions of their own weight loss - especially since the Biggest Losers exercise intensively while most of the people at home would still have to manage work and other daily routines.

They probably lost a lot more at the start, since that's what you do when you go from 0 exercise and lots of junk food to extreme workouts and healthy eating. You'll lose an extreme amount in the first few days (excess water being pushed out of tissue or something), and then perhaps nothing the week after. Perhaps even gain a little. This is one of the reasons they don't recommend that kind of shock treatment, since the disappointment makes people drop out and return to their old habits. Those TV shows probably think the resulting drama and crying is a great plot twist.

Indeed, they care about the drama. Still, that guy lost five pounds. It's a lot, and it was a part of ongoing development, not just a single occasion.

Guess what? Certain friends of mine still don't know what the fuck they're talking about sometimes and manage to piss me off to levels I REALLY shouldn't be getting to with my heart the way it is.

Gah. Some days I think I should just break it off with everyone but a very, very small group of people.

You do not convince me. You rationalize your actions and because the result is favorable you become right.

It is a lot; in fact, it's a bit more than is safe to lose in a week.

Indeed, at least if you believe healthcare professionals. And I do, at least in this case.

So, not even 9am and the same chica who sent me into a red-mist rage yesterday calls back. For the same issue. I say "Oh HELL no," and punt to my boss since she's not taking "We can't DO that" as an answer. He conferences in, and I continue to listen in. At which point she comes up with an entirely different problem than what she was telling me, one that I could have dealt with easily.

I think this is why we're not actually co-located in D.C. Because the temptation to actually take the elevator to her office and exact grievous bodily harm would simply be too great.

Nah, my mom's weight is a taboo and mine is commentable-onnable.

What's your fathers take on that? Does he even know?

My dad has made fun of me for it.  He also denigrates my female friend by calling her fat, even though she's plump at the most and generally healthy/normal-looking.

So no, I'm not talking to dad, hehe.

Yeah except for the umpteen hundred surveillance cams, and the biometric ID I need to get in the building.  :P

But...this is the same dad that was a raging leftist and labor organizer, right? WTF gives?

Yeah, he even showed up at the Black Panther clubhouse because some dude at a rally or something told him to go, and ended up giving out leaflets for them for a while or something like that.

Apparently he doesn't understand that telling a teenaged daughter "Oh, I weighed less than you when I was 21 and loading boxcars!  Hahahahahahaha" might be a mite offensive.  Oh, well.

I'm really sorry to hear that.
My dad usally alternates between "you're too fat" and "don't worry about it you look fine".
Also he takes the freedom to negatively comment on all my friends. That's the reason why he hasn't met any of my current ones.

I know I'm in no position to comment on your life and give you advice, without you asking for it.
It's just worrying to hear about you doing that, even though you understand that it's unreasonable.

Come to think of it, there is a pretty well-documented double standard within the 60's Left where women were kind of looked down on even within SNCC, the Black Panthers, the American Communist Party, etc. Kinda what led to the women's movement in the 70's.

Still...dick move there, Vector's Dad. I've seen a couple of your pictures. If he weighed less and was loading boxcars, I'd have to ask "What, were you the crowbar they used to open the door?"

No, that was before I went on a starvation diet in order to put myself in a position where I'd stop being made fun of like that.  I also had the disadvantage of weighing the same amount as the guy I wanted to date, who was proud of being skeletal and his "metabolic efficiency."

Hahahahahaha D:
