Respect is something that is earned, not freely given or deserved by default.

Moderate respect should be your default for any stranger.

True respect and disrespect are things that are earned.

This presents the problem of determining how much respect is ”moderate”.

My mother is making me rage.  First she said she only needed me to help slice some strawberries for her last night.  Then today, she keeps me home until well past noon helping her water, garden, deadhead, and sometimes literally STAND AND WATCH HER and WAIT to be given something to DO.  She said I could spend the day at a friend's place, but well I guess not since HALF THE DAY IS GONE ALREADY.

My wife is so very much like that.  Whatever she's doing takes precedence over whatever anyone else is doing.  She seems to literally think of other people as extensions of her own body.  Gets on my nerves all the time, because I try to explain to her "If you do your work while I do my work, we can both finish our respective tasks and both have time to do things afterwards.  Possible together.  As in quality time, which you constantly complain about us not having."  I've been trying to explain this concept to her for 10 years, and she still reacts as if I'm spouting quantum physics at her in swahili.  Like I honestly think she doesn't understand the consequences of her own behavior in this regard.  It seems to be a very common ESFJ issue.

The citizens of the Internet require you to punch — joke, I joke, though do I seem to be asking people to punch other people with an alarming degree of frequency lately.

I think I told Kay12 to punch someone too, so it is nothing personal.

Apparently this whole censoring war over filesharing started because some people are too good at relating things.

The Steam servers are so overloaded I'm getting my download at 56k/s (down from 850k/sec) and Steam is randomly pausing my download. Garrrrrrrrr.

Eww that's bad, but it might just be your power supply went kaput.  If you know what you are doing when it comes to installing it, you can often get those for under $60 sometimes much less.

Of course if it's something else...

Mine gave up last week amid a smell of burning plastic and disappointment. It turns on, but doesn't turn off, and there's no signal to the monitor.

I have steal laptops while everyone's asleep.

You let the magic smoke out of something.  Probably toast.  You might not be getting signal to your monitor because the laptop probably isn't doing anything but making a whirring noise.

One thing you can try, if your laptop has one of those monitor connectors try hooking a monitor up to it and see if that gives you a signal.  If not, at least your hard drive is "probably" fine and salvageable.  Unless that was one of the things that cooked.

EDIT: I need to stop automatically trying to diagnose computer problems I'm hearing about.  I'm starting to even do it without being asked. :P
