Back when I was the pseudo-IT guy for a regional chain up here, there were 28 registers in the checkout lanes in the store I worked in. This is not counting the three at the customer service desk, two at the pharmacy, one at all of deli, video games, sporting goods, pets section, and three in the garden center. This is also not counting the 12 "U-Scan" machines (2 blocks of 6, with a touchscreen podium each.) These were run via said podiums by regular cashiers with no extra training. At any given time, there were no more than 5 open regular checkouts, and half the U-Scans were taken offline because there was no one scheduled to run them. See, I wouldn't be so angry at these stores if they'd only have the 6 or so lanes they actually use, but nothing in that store pissed me off than seeing lines back to the merchandise and 20+ closed registers.

See, I can at least kind of understand it here. Apparently there aren't as many teens who want to work as there are jobs that need teens to work them. But these stores aren't even trying to hire more people. I hate this idiocy that comes.

I guess I got it good then,  The market here still has 12 cashier lanes (only about 4 or 5 ever staffed but it's a good number most of the time) and 4 self serves staffed by one guy.

Nobody ever uses the self serves because we seem to have an inordinate amount of older folks that won't touch the things with a 10 foot pole.   Whenever there's a big line at the other registers I can always just head over to one of them, where the staffer is just standing around trying to look busy, and zip zop zobbity bop, Groceries are paid and I'm walking out the store almost as fast as a regular cashier could ring the stuff up.

My only gripe about the things are a lack of some kind of pre-programmed common sense.  No I'm not going to bag this 24 pack of soda, that's absurd.  Oh your calling the staffer over now because you don't understand why I won't bag my box bigger than the bag, or you can't detect the weight of that birthday card I just rang up and insist I'm trying to steal something.  Those kind of things would be really sensible to program some kind of "Ignore bagging weight check on item #1354678" or somesuch.

ie: Screw you, heat. I was barely standing by the end of the day.

And yet, I was never hired for one of those places. The dollar store I usually go to only has two registers, though, and one is almost always staffed(it damn well should be), often both.

I don't know.  I rather like the self checkout lanes.

So, I got locked in the laundry/utility room. -Again-.
It wouldn't be an issue, except for the minor fact that everyone in this damned household becomes temporarily deaf when it happens.

Luckily, it's a simple lock and I popped it with a handy screwdriver. Still, it's annoying.

Maybe you shouldn't close the door behind you when you go in there.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

That's the kicker: I leave the door open.
Everyone else closes it. And locks it. Despite me standing 6 feet away. Inside.

-That's- why it's RAAAAAGE! worthy.

Just remove the cause of the problem.

You may interpret that however you wish.

That's the thing, though. This store got over 100 applications a day when I was working there. They were actively firing cashiers at that point, because they were "overstaffed".

Stick a shoe in the door way so when they shut it thunks and you can go "HEY, DOIN LAUNDRY OVER 'ERE OVER 'DERE."
