: \ That's more of an issue of defense though. Trigger locks hamper the ability to defend yourself in a crisis situation.
It will be a cold day in hell when I see a gun as a viable solution to a crisis situation, taking risk and reward analysis into account.

You're not taking into account human stupidity. :P

Quasi-edit: Stupid crappy dial-up connections. >_<

Ok lets give this an example. Someone has a gun and wants to kill you. I call using a gun on him before he does to be a viable solution.

Exept it's not : the agressor will almost always kill you first. Don't let him have a gun.

Seriously? You're held at gun-point and you hope to retrieve your gun before he fire?

Edit : Pm or new thread?

You do realize that that isn't the only possible situation for someone trying to kill you with a gun, right?

New thread. Should I make one, or do the next person in line to argleargue have the sense to do it himself?

We have most definitely not. Why, I don't think we've EVER had any sort of thread about the concept of atheism.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

We should start a Topics You've Had Before You Had Again Today Thread. It would outgrow Happy Thread in no time. Our "we've talked about this/every topic before" posts would make an awesome meta start for it.

Could just make a "Common Threads That Don't Need to Be Remade" index thread and get it stickied.
