You could have a piece of the toenail cut out from it. That's what they did with mine. They also made it so no new toenail could grow and get ingrown.

Mu doctor tried that on me after having had several infections. It failed, though, and the toe grew back out, but it's perfectly normal now, thank god.

I bit my nail on my bird finger (I don't know what else to call it), too short and it got infected a little bit. Nothing like the grievous injuries above.
