I've never heard that, but I'm not a writer.  It sounds to me like new writers often overuse adverbs, so the advice should probably be read as "use adverbs wisely, not with every single verb", not "nevar use teh adverb!"

Yeah, it should be read like that, and in fact a lot of the time it's explicitly stated as such. But you hear "no adverbs" often enough that it's bothersome. New writers aren't likely to have a firm grasp on what an adverb is or what acceptable and strong uses of them are. And rarely do the articles get into good use of adverbs. It's almost always just a condemnation which isn't really helpful.

If I had to pick the biggest problem word for new writers it would be "that." I'd say that half the time that the word occurs it contributes nothing to the sentence that it's in and that it only pads sentence length. Works really well for keeping meter in poetry though.

I had this thing for only 2 months.

I went through 2 sets of headphones in 4 weeks a little while ago. Good quality ones, too.

Went through 4 or so meh quality ones in about a week at one point. Damn things always went out in the right ear, too.

Aside from the pair I'm using(dead in the right side, go figure), the only thing I've got is a USB headset I normally use for my PS2(SOCOM and Lifeline, bandwidth might kill itself if I try to talk online). And it's only got one speaker, for the left ear.

Ingronw nail, perhaps? I have a similar problem, and have to go about once every other month to get my toenails trimmed. Or I end up not being able to put my shoes on.
