Technically, Britain and America are backwards. I mean, Australia is the youngest here.

I can't believe you don't call mud shrimp 'Yabbies', and Sausages 'Snags', and Frankfurts 'Cheerios'.

I mean, everyone knows what a 'ute' is, right?

Wikipedia tells me many things.

You know how America deals with terrorists.

Hugs?

Oh yeah, the British are so backward for having Guy Fawkes day.

I mean, MLK day is so much more significant.

Let's see... Both men... Both tried to change the world... Both died, and both had those changes happen posthumously.

HUUUUURRRRRMMMM!

Let me get this straight... You are comparing a man who attempted mass murder to a man who is probably the most important figure of the 20th century?

Technically, Britain and America are backwards. I mean, Australia is the youngest here.

I can't believe you don't call mud shrimp 'Yabbies', and Sausages 'Snags', and Frankfurts 'Cheerios'.

I mean, everyone knows what a 'ute' is, right?

Over here Cheerios are a cereal with a bee on the box... Which one is the weird one?

Seriously? That's gotta be a joke.

Another problem. The nauseating number of security cameras.
It's a commemoration of the thwarting of what would have been one of the biggest terrorist attacks ever.  If 9/11 had been stopped, would America have made a celebration?

And security cameras are "Backwards" now?

English (UK)' English (US), and 'English (AU)'. And even English (NZ).

No love for English (CA)? D:

Ahem: Urist McTroll, countries have their own words, and their own spelling for things. That's what makes us have 'English (UK)' English (US), and 'English (AU)'. And even English (NZ).
I personally wouldn't have it any other way.

You sir, have misinterpreted my point.

It's a commemoration of the thwarting of what would have been one of the biggest terrorist attacks ever.  If 9/11 had been stopped, would America have made a celebration?

And security cameras are "Backwards" now?

Okay you have a point for the first one but for the second one I am personally against so many security cameras. Although sadly that appears to be the road America's going down. I feel the rage.

Uh, MLK's dream came true, but to my knowlage the UK (Or just England, as it would have been at the time) has never become a totalitarian theocracy, as Guy Fawkes wished it to be.

If that was truly Mr. Fawkes' point then comparing him to one of the greatest men ever to live is not that great of a comparison.

Ok, I will agree that CCTV is a bit Nineteen Eighty Four.

But- this is my personal opinion- Guy Fawkes is as much a terrorist as the french revolution.

Edit: And let's not forget English (CA)!

Wasn't it during Cromwell's reign?

No! We get one type of English. You may call it General American or Standard American English. All other types of American English are dialectical variations thereof!

e: The Brits don't get English (Mercia), English (Kent), English (London) and they're all way more different than any American dialects.

Ulp. Tack was wrong. He also saw V for Vendetta much earlier than he last looked up Guy Fawkes.

England has a Protestant on the throne, as well.

So, Guy Fawkes night IS about foiling a terrible treason.
