from what i can tell it's a protest against another sopa clone. showing the wolrd what it would be like if "sopa" gave the us power to shut out any website it didn't like, because we all know it's not jsut copyright thats going to be taken down :/

any website can be reached if you know the IP. simply do a ping from command prompt or terminal.

Not if they DDOS the servers. Then again, I'm thinking of a targeted attack. Not a "shut down the internet" attack.

the attack states there attacking the "root" 13 dns servers. dns is the address we use like "www.google.com" that gets sent to the dns, looked up and an IP returned to our computers. if the dns servers are gone or down no IP is returned, thus is a dead link. if you know the IP to the site you want to go on, you should have no issues because your avoiding the dns entirely.

Remember, together in that attack there was about 900 MB/s hitting the servers. Internet speed has increased a LOT since 2002.

And so has the ability of the servers to withstand DDoS attacks, particularly in response to that one.
