Sounds like their DRM biting you in the ass.
You mean that experiment in bad interface design that been going on for two or so years?

Also, if you know how to do so, rip the missing stuff out of the registry manually.

I don't.

My only problem with this interface is that is swaps the item order around, meaning my recommended videos is in a different location each time.

So my crundles are staying intact unless they're newly spawned... until they are exposed to anything that isn't at room temperature.  This mostly seems to mean blood, specifically, their own.  Then they go poof very quickly.

How do I even access tools? This is on Vista mind.

EDIT: I found the file, but I can't even interact with it.

That bar near the top of the folder window with file, edit, view, tools, and help is what I meant. (On 7, pushing Alt made it appear in XP, and probably works for you too)

What do you mean by can't interact?

Found it, couldn't find anything new with it though.

And on the disc drive's copy of the game/installing stuff I found the file that is listed in the error, but it won't let me touch it.

If you can find the copy of the file on your harddrive, boot in safe-mode. That should, theoretically, not load the file at startup and allow you to screw with it. You may also have to check the settings of the file itself and make sure it's not set to read-only.

There WAS some gunk on it. Cleaned and trying again. If it doesn't work I'll try what nenjin suggested.

I figured it was this when I saw the error, but "Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)." sounds like it might be some kind of DRM. If the file is on the hard drive then(for normal installs) it generally either overwrites or ignores the file, usually overwrites.

I found the hard drive counterpart to the mentioned file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Caches on my Vista 64-bit.

@ninja: Oh well, ignore me.

I feel like this conversation needs to be moved to the "Things that made you go WTF" thread.

Checked the thread about Ralph Nader and Ron Paul working together and thought, 'I'd vote for them come 2012 if they ran together.'
Then I realised I'd never be able to tell my family because 'Oh noes! You voted for an republican!'
So I'd have to lie and be like 'Yeah, I voted for Obama.'
The crazies are just as bad on both sides.
There just seem to be more right-wing crazies.
