My house is often filled with the sound of "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO nonononononononononono!" at 3am because of my cats. It's this crazy half trot, half run in the pitch dark, with me sort of holding, sort of throwing my cat about 10 feet at a time until he gets to the back door. As long as he hurks on throw rugs, I'll keep my composure.

So the top executive of the corporate division that I work for visited my office tonight.  I just finished listening to him talk for about 20 minutes about how successful the company has been the past year and all the growth that's happening.  He threw in a couple obligatory comments of "Thanks for all your hard work" in there...

Yeah... I feel soooo appreciated...

A few people on my shift were daring each other (especially me) to say something.  None of us had the guts.

Anyone who has been following the Occupy Wall St thread might recognize this post.  Time for a revisit, but this time it definitely belongs in the rage thread.

First off, as soon as the guy mentioned above left, we were given information about our yearly merit pay increase.  It doesn't even match the rate of inflation, unless you got a perfect score on your yearly performance review... which not a single person (out of a couple hundred) in the office did...

Second, and the reason for this post, is I opened my yearly benefits enrollment package over my lunch break.  I think they're trying to kill me.  I can't fucking afford to work here anymore.

They used to have an Employee + Spouse coverage plan.  We used that and kept our kids on Medicaid.  This arrangement has been essential to our financial well-being.  This year, they did away with that option.  Now it's just Employee, Employee + Children, or Employee + Family.  My wife absolutely needs health insurance.  She's very accident prone and suffers severe acid reflux (without medication before sleep, she'll wake up every couple hours puking up acid).  The only way to get her insured is through the family coverage plan, which is about $130 a month more expensive then our previous plan.  On top of that, it would force us to ensure our kids.  We would lose their Medicaid and start having to pay co-pays on every doctor visit and prescription, which will amount to a fuck ton of money for a child with Type 1 Diabetes.

The extra cost this is going to pile on us is at least 5% of my total salary.

But at least the company is doing great!!!!!

... Excuse me, I think I'm just going to go study some more.  Maybe I'll be in bed by 1 AM tonight.

I'm so scared =/

I'm just going to spend the rest of my shift destroying my hearing with angry music.

... Holy fucknuggets, that's rough. I really find myself hoping you can work your way into a better job soon, because from the sound of it offloading this cost onto you is not something that can actually work for you. Good luck, man.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I don't even know where to look for work that isn't doing stuff like this to their employees.  As much as I hate my job, I've felt lucky because at least this kind of thing wasn't happening to me yet.  Not that I'm not going to try... I really have to at this point... but it's hard to be the least bit optimistic when most everyone I know is either resigned to living with their parents, still in school living on loans and part-time campus work, or has already shared a dozen stories with me about getting dicked around like this by their employers.

The heels are literally starting to fall off of my boots.  I'm not sure they'll last another two years...

Infatuation is making me rage. Hard. Especially when there's hints at something which might just be nothing which in actuality might be everything.

They should've made this shit simpler.

I know how you feel :/  Well maybe.  There was a hot guy at work who seemed to go out of his way to run into me and talk with me, but I think I pushed him away by accident.  He'd do this at work, sometimes wandering way away from his department to hang out.  And I knew the store was understaffed, and he could get in trouble for being in the wrong place.  So I always told him that helping his department was more important.  I guess I made the right decision, the type of guy I'd like to fall for would be more responsible than that.  But still.  *sigh*

I remember having a three hour 8 AM physics class last semester. That was no fun at all.

Three hour night classes are the worst.  I get to see the sun set and beyond before passing away into a soulless state of being.

Having three one hour 8AM classes is the worst because I have to get up early for something so short.

I have a three hour night class this semester, and it's not nearly as bad. Of course, 8 AM physics was twice a week, so it's probably never going to be that bad.
