GAH! Quit fucking advertising me shit that I'll never use or watch, Youtube!

If you prefer, Google could implement extreme data-mining measures to determine which ads better suit your demographic profile. Would you rather have relevant ads or personal privacy?
I'd prefer if they stopped ads completely.

Fair enough, but they're already providing you a high-bandwidth service completely for free, so...

Google's a multi-million dollar corporation. I think they can afford not to put advertisements on Youtube.

Sure, if they were offering it as a charity, but presumably they intend to make money off of it.

What I expected: Meet a friend, discuss stigmergy in natural and artificial systems
What I got: Friend had gotten into MLP, which would've been fine by me if he wasn't overdoing it up to the eleven... he was basically preaching about the joy of ponies to everyone there like a bloody madman.

I'm not defending the guy, but let me just say that's not exactly unexpected behavior.

The thing hits you like a friggin' religious fervour and doesn't subside for weeks.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

If a children's TV show fucks up your social behavior that much, then that's probably a preexisting condition.

And if it's target audience wasn't children, things would somehow be different?

I do mostly agree on the "preexisting condition" thing, though. I can control my gushing about it, at least :P Otherwise I would've lost a couple friends by now, heh.

My internet friends and real life friends conspire with one another to annoy me with MLP-related things.

I wish I was joking. So, so very much. Why?

A little. I find it hard to believe that a show intended for young children resonates just as well with a well-adjusted adolescent/adult. I suppose stranger things have happened, though.

I like to believe there aren't that many maladjusted people living among the general populace.

Ah well, welcome to reality, where creators don't choose who their audience is, much to their dismay :)

Though if it makes you feel better, the directly explicitly said it was meant for "all ages," not just kids. I can't find the quote at the moment but she compared it to Pixar's films and how they legitimately aim to entertain everyone in the audience.

Fair enough, but the fandom still scares the bejesus out of me. I've never been one for pop-culture obsessions; they've always creeped me out.
