Ugh this conversation is digging up how I personally dislike school level sports more than professional level because of how much of a budget they get and those stories you get in the news about athletes getting special treatment when they screw up. Also because I knew a kid who was incredibly screwed up socially because his abusive father pushed him into being on the football team. And on a more petty level the football team at my school would get fancy italian catering before a game and you could smell it from the halls and it was annoying. And I only live in the north where its not as big a deal...

It's even worse then the athletes get injured and as a result lose their scholarship with no compensation.

Already fixed (that was the 'Fucking hell'), not my car, not alone, and needed to get back to the dorms so other person could drive another hour and a half back.

My high school got a nice brand-new turf field... and cut every art-related class to pay for it, despite some pretty noisy disapproval from virtually every non-sport-playing student. When I graduated, we still didn't have any of them back.

God, that reminds me of how, in my senior year of high school, the (volunteer) theater director backed out early in the production of the school musical, and the teacher most likely to be handed the position didn't want to take it since he was in charge of a couple of sports himself, so he made up some BS about how cancelling the musical at this time would free us up to pursue other extra-curricular activities. Never mind that some of us really liked theater, and they probably wouldn't say the same thing if one of the coaches for a sport decided to back out.

Our academic team has been undefeated for the past... since before I entered high school, and we remain competitive on the state level (Despite never having more then half of our best people there).  But yet we get less then a hundred dollars of funding per year, which is not even enough to pay for hosting the yearly tournament at our school.  But yet we have a nice giant field that is nicely maintained, and the football team barely has to do any fundraising, despite the fact that our football team has won exactly seven games in the past four years, and has nothing to do with academics.
