12) I found a crushed moth in the lettuce that I was about to serve. Whoever prepared the lettuce and gave it to me to put on sandwiches was not at all careful.
I work at a different location as the person who would be prepping the lettuce for people out front (and baking), and ...

OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD

...

OH GOD

I would've thrown it out. I would've pointed it out to my supervisor and thrown it out. The whole bag. Wrote it down on the production sheet as waste, and tossed it. That's ... that's ... oh god

... nothin' wrong with a little protein, WF :P

I mean, sure, you wipe it off but if there's some leavings... eh. It's not like canned goods and whatnot don't have an acceptable level of bug bit saturation.

2) The evening supervisor has a temper problem; he doesn't realize that he's angry, and he's only vocal, but when he's stressed he shows it easily, and it comes out as frustration and anger. He's usually jovial and such, but he does scare everyone when he's upset.

This, unfortunately, is me sometimes. I don't hide stress well, and usually vent it verbally or with my actions. I don't tend to direct it at people, that's one time where I'll usually change my locale so I can cool off rather than blowing up on someone. But when I'm simply frustrated or angry at life it just kind of radiates out into the world, and I know no one likes it. I'm self aware enough when it's happening, but not quite mature enough to stop it from happening.

I was wrong! The graphics card had not started working! Fuck this, Nvidia, I've wasted 5 hours of my life on getting your shitty product to work, and only the fact that I can't get a refund is going to make me waste more. But not fucking today. Only silver lining is that my old one turns out not to have been the weak link in my system that broke it last time, so I could go back to something that doesn't shut down every time I so much as glance at Youtube or sneeze something. I'll pursue whatever bullshit passes for customer service in this industry after finals, I guess, because while I don't want to spend my two or three days of break on this horse shit I won't have time to bother at any other time.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Out of curiosity, who's the manufacturer on the new and DOA(?) card?

Gigabyte. It is, specifically, this. "Refurbished" was evidently not worth the discount. Probably my next step is to try and figure out how to get them to replace the damn thing.

"Refurbished"

Well there's your problem (probably). What's the rest of the computer like? You said you were getting a new mobo/CPU, I think? What's the power supply?

Heck, what was that card doing? Did it make a whining noise before the whole computer shut down, did it not get recognized by the system, what?

Might be that card's not faulty, though being second-hand, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Power supply is 450 W; by the estimates here, I should need 366 as their "recommended" value, which I figure ought to supply a decent margin of error. I assumed a "high-end" motherboard for that purpose (actual model), and I'm using this CPU. Nothing I noticed while doing the research suggests a potential conflict, so yeah, the "refurbished" thing is my best guess.

No temperature spikes occur at the times of failure, either, nor does there seem to be anything else terribly remarkable as far as I could tell from monitoring (except that GPU use seems to increase to about 42-45%, which it also does occasionally without crashing).

Apparently it actually has a warranty for some reason, so I intend to exploit the hell out of it.

Can I get the model of the supply?

And did it make a noise, how did it crash?

That'd be this.

EDIT: No noise. Just screen blackout, then a refresh with the generic and utterly unhelpful "Display driver has failed and recovered" error message, whose exact text I could probably look up given enough time. There's dozens of potential causes, hence the 5 hours trying various solutions in the hope that one would stick. Faulty card is the easiest fix I couldn't rule out. Although, once, it never recovered and the computer rebooted itself, but I'm pretty sure that had more to do with WindowBlinds fucking up in irreproducible ways. Audio tended to get pretty warped, and it had a habit of triggering on Youtube videos (though it would fail pretty much at random otherwise).

If you're trying to diagnose the problem, I really appreciate it, though I doubt I've got enough information to figure it out remotely.

Okay, that pretty much rules out the issue I have experience with. Almost sounds like a software fault than a hardware fault, but I assume you tried all the typical solutions to that.

I doubt you do, since you'd have tried it by now, but got another computer you can test it in? Could be on the mobo (never heard of that brand before, though information seems generally positive), could be the power supply (that's... not a very good-quality one, from what I can find). Audio warping makes me think mobo. I doubt you can swap in the old mobo, not just because it's potentially bad, but I bet your new CPU isn't compatible.

Failing any of that, yeah. you got a second-hand bit of hardware, and that's not always the greatest thing to do, I think.

I've never had any problems with using a gas stove inside, and I do so frequently (more frequently, as of late). The match thing is not normally a risk, but given the level of intelligence I remember from your stepdad...

Ok, a bit slow on this, but do to my buisness I feel the need to speak up. Don't do this! Camping stones and BBQs throw off way too much Carbon Monoxide (this happens when the fuel isn't consumed completly, which is why indoor gas furnaces and ovens are fine because they burn the fuel more efficently). Carbon Monoxide is no laughing matter. It's just not worth the risk, just go outside. If it's cold, put on a coat. Also, don't BBQ in your garage in the winter either.

Playing arena in Hearthstone. Why is everyone so much more of an asshole in this mode? In normal games I do not encounter nearly this many people who play so slowly and do dumb shit just to make me mad.

Its possible they're just bad.  In turn based games making your move slowly is generally a sign of inexperience.

Are you sure they're doing it to make you mad and not that they're just unskilled at the game? It's not unheard of to not be great at a thing, you know.
