No, you fail. Again.

Fuck.

Just...

Dammit.

Fuck.

I am so sick of this place.  These politicians.  The corporations.  All the folks who keep voting them into power and blissfully ignoring the country they're creating.

Things will get better once the Baby Boomers finally die and the younger generations have a real say in politics. We just have to hold on a little longer.....

Not really. Plenty of this generation is idiots, although I think our greatest vice seems to be apathy. You would not believe how many people I know who don't vote because "It's not worth the effort".

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I highly doubt that.

Sure...  We'll have politicians who grew up in an environment where downloading a pirated movie was commonplace.  And you'd think that would perhaps lead them to vote against copyright legislation like this...  But it won't.

The big businesses are going lobby the new generation of politicians just like they do the current ones.

And we voters are fucking morons.

We vote for the guy who seems folksy.  Who looks like someone you go have a drink with.  Who looks like they'd make a nice neighbor.  Not the one who looks like they could actually get the job done.

We've got the attention span of goldfish.

We completely forget about everything that's been said from one day to the next.  They can rant and rave about how awful the oil industry is one day, turn around and say how awesome it is the next, and nobody calls them on it.

We thrive on scandal and sensationalism.

Never mind the incredible track record that so-and-so has, never mind all the scandals everyone else in politics has had, never mind that nobody was actually hurt - he took a picture of his dick, burn him!

And it isn't going to get any better, any time soon.  Not until we voters decide to take our jobs seriously.  Not until we start throwing politicians out of office when they don't do what they're supposed to.  Not until we pass a metric crapton of laws to tone down corporate donations and lobbying and all that other BS.  Not until we start actually researching who we're voting for, and what they actually stand for.  Not until we can vote with our brains instead of our emotions.

And your talking about how bad it is, everyone is talking about how bad it is, people know how bad it is, people are not as stupid as we make them to be, they just don't care. They have food, cars, money and homes, why seek change? Things are fun, just sit down and enjoy your coffee.

Want change? Paint two tools on your sheet and raise it in protest, make an effort, don't cuss on the internet and say people are stupid, go out on the street and wake them up.

Hey, this is a good idea.

Aklyon, let's protest corporate ISP pressure. It's a small start but a good one.

Who looks like someone you go have a drink with.

I was in government class in my senior year of high school during the 2000 elections.  The teacher asked people who they were going to vote for and why.  A large portion of the class replied Bush and gave this exact reason for their decision.  It blew my mind that people would actually think this way.  I still want to claw my eyes out in frustration just thinking about it.

People will choose an incompetent nice guy over an effective asshole because the effective asshole is an asshole.

People will choose an incompetent nice guy over an effective asshole because the effective asshole is an asshole.

And if that were the given reason, I wouldn't have a problem with it.  "Seems like a normal guy" might imply nice... maybe... I guess... it doesn't imply "seems nicer than the other guy".

My impression is more people say something like that to express appreciation when they aren't intimidated by someone having too much intellect, moral standard, dignified composure, etc.  Most people avoid any social situation where they feel inferior, and this bleeds over into their selection of representatives.
