It doesn't help that the assembly that we're supposed to be building on (we're making a wave generator for a delta tank, for the geology department) is a mess. There are unlabeled parts, strange mates (including a mutually exclusive pair), confusing use of subassemblies, and so many bolts. The last one might be necessary, but I doubt it. How many bolts do you need to keep a 2x14x45 inch plexiglass tank together? I doubt the number is 62, not including bolts that actually attach it to the table.

EDIT: 18 of these bolts don't even connect anything, they just go through a hollow part!

Maybe those hollow-part-bolts are used to attach modules on, depending on the application of the tank? :P

... maybe those bolts are intended to be ammunition? It's a fair prank to design a wave generator that occasionally assaults the the geology department folks, right?

I would just turn it in half-complete and say "Well, I would have been able to complete it if I had some help from my group..." or actually complete it myself and go "Group? What group? I did this myself. I didn't even know we had groups!"

You're not missing much. The occasional music video in between shows of teenagers acting like pieces of shit.
Thanks for reminding me of how old I am, nenjin.

I still remember when MTV actually played music videos as its primary function.

... pretty sure nenjin does, too. Or at least was alive during that period. It wasn't that far back... um. Was it? It didn't turn tweeny until like the 2000s, right?

Based on hearsay I've heard people say, that's about right yeh. Give or take a couple years past 2000.

Oh god, I just -love- that kind of engineering. It's like one of those assemble-yourself furniture things on steroids, the IKEA nightmare.

I think it was even before that. I want to say ~1998 the shift started happening.

I guess I can't complain. Prior to not watching it anymore, about the only thing I'd watch on MTV was Beavis & Butthead. (And Liquid Television. Oh Liquid Television, how I miss you.)

Yeah, Liquid Television was awesome.  That and The State were the things I loved to watch on MTV.

I know I saw recently that you could buy episodes of Liquid Television on DVD.  I really ought to pick that up.

Update on annoying idiot housemate: When I left for work he was watching a Nick Cage movie and making some sort of noise in reaction to it literally every 5 seconds. "Ooh!" "Nuh-uh!" "He did not!" "This is an amazing movie." On top of repeating insignificant lines from the movie and explaining every plot point as it's already being explained. I almost feel bad for insulting him now; I think he's got some form of mental retardation.

I'm not insulting his choice of movie, I'm insulting how he was reacting to it.
