What is it with people and writing "thru" instead of "through" lately? I'm seeing it a lot on these forums.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

When I do, though, it makes my inner grammar nazi go apeshit. It's like the then and than thing.
Same here.

Whenever I post, I always attempt to use perfect spelling and grammar (helped by my iPads spellcheck function) but I like to use informal language, like when I say stuff like 'yup'.

Am I catching?
I write it that way because thats how I say it (Or atleast how my mind says I say it. Its weird, When I listen to recordings of my voice I have no idea what I'm saying either, but most of the time I can understand what I say as I say it...
Yay speech impediments!))

Well, in an NZ accent (which might just possibly be the worst frame of reference imaginable, but anyway) "thru" and "through" sound the same, unless it's a short "u" sound - like "thrust" but dropping the "st" in favour of a glottal stop.

..

Unless you mean "through" looks like it should be pronounced in the same manner as "plough" (or "plow" to you filthy Americans), in which case I'd have to remind you that English is a whore of a language and none of its rules apply to more than a few cases.

Anyways, as I said, if we spelled things the way we pronounced them, then we'd not spell things like we do.
Go look up Gaelic.

English will look fuckin' phonetic after that.

Ah, that reminds me of trying and failing to pronounce the elvish stuff in Runescape a few years back. You know, the elves that named everything in some Welsh derivative.

Good times, man.
