I'm developing the strong opinion that my dispatchers should have their pay docked every hour they keep us drivers sitting around waiting for loads. They should be aggressively shuffling assignments around so that driver downtime is as short as possible, probably by instituting some sort of first-come-first-serve system. Instead they stick to existing assignments with an almost religious fervor, perfectly content to sit on their hands while drivers are stuck for hours on end and only deviating from their Perfect Plan if it becomes an absolute necessity (eg, breakdowns).

They get paid by the hour. We don't. Perhaps if they were punished by excessive delays just like we are, they might start to emphasize with us poor on-the-road guys.

Because not everyone acts like a cruel asshat. Just...y'know, a fair number do. They're a vocal minority.
