First however, you need the basics and those are universally dry for any language, taught by any teacher.

As someone who had an award-winning British Latin scholar that was completely fucking bonkers for two semesters of Intro To Latin, I disagree. He liked to ride his bike around class while spouting Latin and translating Beatles lyrics and dirty limericks into Latin.

Come to think of it, my high school spanish teacher was fairly unhinged too. He used to have this big oak club he kept in class with "Arma de Los Santos" written on it, and a bunch of other graffiti. When he got mock angry he'd grab it and rant at us. I liked the bit so much he gave me the arm as a gift my senior year hehe.

As I said, from my experiences.
Most of the things, that go beyond the basics of English, I have taught myself.

And yes, most of the time you have to learn the basic rules of the language, before you can do anything fancy with it.

Actually, all this trouble parsing languages gives me an idea for a thread that could bump this one a couple hundred pages, and be informative at the same time:  Can Bay 12 parse a language with very little previous knowledge?

Mostly I would give a famous quote, but I would write it in a language I made up. Then I would translate some very basic words into english
(since everyone here speaks that) and see if anyone can crack the code.

I think it would be interesting to see what sort of insane ideas you guys come up with for trying to figure out a completely alien language.

Well, I did get an honorable mention in a national computational linguistics competition at the high school level, so... quite probably?

Shoot them. Then you can have tomatoes and birds/squirrels. This advice from the MetalSlimeHunt Board of MetalSlimeHunt Survivalism.

Don't have a rifle, and I've never been a good shot with a pistol, automatically ruling out our revolver. (It's a nasty area.)

Not all that keen on killing them, really; I'd much prefer to discourage them.

Ooh, you guys are going to hate me, I bet.

I gave you a very, very easy one to start out with, just to get the slightest grip on the language. It's also a quote, juyst to make it easier. Next time, it'll be completely original, a little longer, and not human in origin at all.

I'd suggest a BB gun for the squirrels, but birds are a different story. I suppose you could try some very light weight mesh to drape over your tomatoes.

Then line the garden's perimeter with the scent of some hazardous predator to both species. They'll flee in terror.

The scent and mesh aren't bad ideas, worth a go, at least.

Not sure if there's such a thing as hawk musk, but it's worth looking for. I imagine a hawk would be threat enough to rodents and avian alike.

Probably wait and use it on the cucumber/pepper patch when they start producing.

The fact that to start Steam in offline mode when you're actually offline, you have to first be connected to the internet, or already in offline mode even when you were last with internet to do so. It made me rage.

For instance: Steam is in online mode. I lose power, or something, and have no internet. I want to play my Steam games, but I cannot do that, for I cannot change to offline mode without being online first, and to start in online mode you have to have access to the internet. If you try to start in offline mode without internet and when your last login was online mode, you will get an error about how this operation "cannot be completed in offline mode". This has been brought up many times in the steam forums, and they refuse to address it. What purpose precisely does it serve?

The only workaround is to anticipate not having internet, and start Steam in offline mode while already connected, so that you can start up steam at all when you are offline, because it was already in offline mode.

I cannot seem to connect to certain websites like Google, Youtube, and DevianArt and neither can my sister. What makes it really annoying is that I saw a video of a game I'm anticipating put up on Youtube. >:[
