Well you still have a year to redeem yourself if all else fails (I think).

No such luck here.

The phone at my house just rang. Not actual ringing, though. It just played the dial tone. The answering machine said "No one is available, blah blah call again" and the tone stopped.
This isn't the first time this has happened.
I'm also slightly scared it's demons.

Eh, Gove wasn't good at methods. Improving education was going along the right lines, but he went about it the wrong way, and turned the teachers against him. What I'm now afraid of is the next time someone speaks of improving education in even a vaguely similar manner, then they'll be accused of going down the path of Gove and be instantly vetoed. Still, I'm not for Gove himself.

Eh, tbh education needs to be scrapped and rebuilt from the ground. Especially everything before A-levels. Cause the fact many courses contain entire swathes of entirely irrelevant and useless material doesn't help. Nor does the fact they don't actually test your knowledge much, just exam technique. I mean, my physics papers this year were wordy. Just..... ewww.

So much this.
I don't even understand why it's that way. How did that come about?

If it's anything like America, it's because it's easier to grade and easier to train people on so you can get demonstrable "results" from whatever metrics people use.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Seems like no-one at work can count. Apparently 482 + 128 = 500. And 359 + 1 = 400.

A lot of boxes got messed up because no-one caught on to the fact that they were being labelled wrong. So many boxes missed entirely because of skipped numbers. We barely got them re-sorted before they had to be sent out.

Then I had to stay late to help take sheets off of a press. Apparently the operator needed help because he couldn't keep up with the press' amazing speed of about one sheet every three seconds. Took over an hour just to complete a small pile that would have taken minutes on the other press. Though with all the glue gumming it up, the sheets refused to stack properly. Instead they just stuck together.

I wasn't given a choice, I was just told that I was staying to help. But I was asked to clock out before I went to help. I didn't clock out. Instead I waited for the clock to roll over after I was finished so that I could get extra time.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.
