An unscientific viewpoint based on centuries of propaganda and societal reinforcement does equate to indoctrination. Wolves are a benefit to ecology. That is science. Believing wolves, deer and others are nuisances because you've got too many people rammed into the animal's habitats is not science. That is overpopulation and blaming the ecology for British mismanagement of resources. Next they'll remove every tree in the UK because some people hit them while driving because they're nuisances.

just stop replying

You've always got informative responses, I'll say.

Gentlemen! You can't fight in here, this is the Rage Thread!

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Quite. I'm at auction, so I currently have zero patience for bickering.

+1 this is becoming too vitriolic. We don't need the rage thread to be shut down.

Now I'm imagine a dimly-lit dive known as The Rage Thread Bar, with two drunken patrons getting rowdy and heading out onto the street for some good ol'-fashioned fisticuffs. All in black-and-white, most likely. Oh, and they're wearing suits, of course.

Next they'll remove every tree in the UK because some people hit them while driving because they're nuisances.

If your sole goal was to stop car/tree related accidents, that's a sound idea. As short-sighted as medieval Britain was in its extermination of wolves, thier goal was to stop people getting eaten. It worked, for a crude definition of "worked".

Reintroducing wolves may very well address the deer problem and have secondary benefits (or it could go horribly wrong - these "adding/reintroducing species" things seem to work well, or horribly badly AFAIK), but may bring with it other problems, some of which may be unforeseen, including the potential of risks to humans thanks to our population density. Or we could increase how many deer are culled, which may not go as far to solving the problem, not have as many or any secondary benefits (other than eating them) when compared to reintroducing wolves, but also has no increased associated risk to humans. Better the devil you know maybe?

REDACTED to prevent rage thread lock-down. Apologies.

Believing wolves, deer and others are nuisances because you've got too many people rammed into the animal's habitats is not science. That is overpopulation and blaming the ecology for British mismanagement of resources. Next they'll remove every tree in the UK because some people hit them while driving because they're nuisances.

And yet, many British people here have posted in favour of reintroduction, myself included?

Propaganda-based objections tend to be "It's bad because it's bad"
The objections posed are "It's bad because I'm worried about the lack of suitable habitat, and also there's a suitable alternative to the deer problem in hunting. As well as this, I'm worried about how wolves may hurt and attack people, as they do in other countries."

This isn't propaganda based. Instead of judging people's opinions on where they're from, judge them on what they actually are.

Eh. Ninjas. Fine, no more posts after this one. And only posting this one because it doesn't have any of my views on the actual debate, more on conduct.

That's almost spot on enough that I'm not sure if the reference was clear or if it's just a perfect coincidence.

Have you considered being a bond villain?
Good intentions, disregards moral opposition, wishes to inseminate countries with wolves...

That... that's a heck of a mental image, right there. Are you saying that this guy ejaculates wolves?

Nope. But I can't get that mental image out of my head, it leaves me feeling a mix of awe, confusion and fear.
