I have a friend with taste to sight synaesthesia. He only discovered it after he went to an art gallery and commented that a painting look like how Doritos tasted.

That must have been one badass painting

One might even call it radical.

I associate letters with colors, but it's more of an unconscious mnemonic rather than actual synesthesia methinks.

I associate music (not all sounds, but music) with places I've been on vacation, for no reason that I am capable of discerning.

For example:
Imagine Dragons - "Radioactive" -> Ann Arbor
The Alan Parsons Project - "Step By Step" -> Anchorage
D12 - "My Band" -> San Juan

I swear, I actually think this way.

So... when you whip out vacation photos, do you take a moment to set the right music playing, first? Make sure to put any video to the correct soundtrack?

Aww, what's so bad about .142857 repeating? Or 0.076923 repeating?

... besides the obvious. Seriously, this is why we made calculators and spreadsheet software, to math hell with doing that junk by hand or head.

On the other hand it's pretty easy to figure out if a number's divisible by 7.

Just chop off the last digit, triple the rest, and add the digit that you just removed.

... how does that help, exactly? If I'm reading that right, say we took 364 (/7 = 52). Chop off the four, triple 36, you come out to 108. Add 4 and... 112? Or add 4 and 1084? The former is also divisible by seven but I'm not sure how that helps me identify it as such ;_;

Well 112 is divisible by 7 too.

(Case in point, do it again. 3*11+2 = 35)

Just like the digital roots for numbers divisible by 9.

... well, yes, but that doesn't really help visually identify the number as divisible by seven any faster than a calculator or long division would...

I mean. It's divisible by seven if some manipulation of it is also divisible by seven is... the results has the same problem it's trying to solve.

If you can't figure out whether 7 is divisible by 7 or not then you have other problems.

That's not what he's saying.

If I take 76,234,839,384, and want to find if it's divisible by 7, then 15,246,967,880 isn't exactly any more helpful.

Right. That. Or just... well, the 364. 112 doesn't really help me any more than 364. 35 would, but only because I know my analog clocks. 14 definitely would, but by that point I've done the process three times and, well...
