I want to do something but I'm not enjoying the things I would normally do and now I'm just generally frustrated at the universe for it.

FUCK YOU DELL PRINTERS, YOU FOLLOWED ME FROM MY LAST JOB TO TORTURE MY ASS AGAIN, FUCK YOU AND YOUR PIECE OF SHIT SOFTWARE THAT DISCONNECTS YOUR NETWORK MAPPING.

To be fair, if it's Windows it's probably just as much to blame. Windows can't keep track of a mapped network connection with two hands and a flashlight.

As long as we're on printers though.....had a customer send a label printer back to us with a long love note about how much shit we do for them that doesn't work, including this printer. (This is the same business with the stupid Terminal Services setup with no sysadmin watching over it.)

So I crack open the printer....and immediately notice that both the label roll AND the thermal ink ribbon are about 6" off center from where they should be. Their fault or happened during shipping? I don't know. Then I further notice a series of filthy dents on the label roll, like it got snagged on something or something pressed into it. My suspicions are they never opened this printer up to check on problems. And I guess they had no reason to, since we've had problems actually getting it on to the network.

30 seconds later, I've got it printing as it should be. (It's amazing how STRAIGHT FORWARD everything is when we don't have to fuck around with TS!) An hour later, it's back in the box on its way back to the owner. We were really tempted to  write a response note that read 'Love ya Rod, kisses from *****" but thought better of it. I'll take stupid but easy to fix printers over other problems any day of the week. Now if we could just make them understand that Terminal Services and how craptacular it makes everything isn't our fault either....

God im fine with our Terminal servers, anything can be dicked around without having to deal with the arse customer other than contacting them. we were lucky to grab our hands on Terminalworks software which sends over remote print jobs via pdfs so we dont have to deal with printer compatibility.

Man, I tried that shit. But the network setup looked like thus:

Printer is installed on the Terminal Server.

Printer gets mapped to it's own individual port, associated with the workstation it's attached to.

A second printer object, something called [printer] Easy Printing gets installed. Which is redirecting the print jobs coming from the VMs.

And that's where I choked. Couldn't even begin to figure how how to set up a new one. Everything else worked. Printer went in on the TS, was visible from the workstation, accessible through our program.....but no printy >< And after 2 hours of Googling which pointed me to an option under TS management that wasn't showing on their system, I said fuck eet.

I'm sure if I spent a couple days researching it I could probably figure out WTF to do.....but man, that's not our job at all. I hate sticking my hands blind into someone else's system, especially when it's been handled by an IT person who knows enough to be dangerous.

Skyrim, the game which I have never bought solely because it's always been ridiculously expensive, is now $7.50 for a very short time. And I cannot get onto Steam to buy it for various reasons which will not be elaborated upon.

Reminds me of a joke of Windows asking if you trust a printer.

Excuse me XBone people what the fuck are you doing
It's not serious.
Even so, we all know the way this will end.
I have seen that same GIF, except with Nintendo as the biker and Microsoft and Sony as the crashing cars.
And yes, I am aware of the weird sentence structure there.

And yet somehow it's still not funny!
... well, no, but... is there a particular reason it's not funny besides it being lame? I feel like I'm forgetting something important.
