If anything, it WANTS to kill you after you make the babies. You're hogging their resources, ya selfish fish.

My friend wouldn't stop making Holocaust jokes even after I told him to stop.
He knows it's the point where I just get pissed off.
I told him I was just done with him after probably 20 or so jokes.
He just shrugs it off completely as if I was nothing but a piece of lint on his shoulder.

Why do the salmon even die in that case?
I don't know, why don't you ask SalmonGod why he's so cruel to his progeny?

I thought salmon died when they had children because they were like, genetically programmed that way. They expend all their energy getting up the river, and just die when their children are born because that's the way they do it.
Exactly. I'm not sure what compels deities into this "designed to die" thing, but it only demonstrates further why we should cast them down and take their power for ourselves.

EDIT: God dammit I was a second too late for having my 11111th post at 11:11:11 on 10/12/13

Now, I wasn't intending for my 11111th post to be at 11:11:11, it just almost happened that way.

Yeah. One of the fucked up things about natural selection; it cares a ton about things that kill you before you have babies, and pretty much stops caring about things that kill you after you've made babies.
Oh gods what have I done.

Look, salmon exhause a lot of energy to give birth, there, and when finished-die off. I'm asking if there was any other cause given the deathrate in kisame's case :/

Being 'genetically programmed to die' in that case is just fallacious. That's like saying 'neurons in the brain can't regenerate' without looking deeper into the how or why.

>_>

Edit: They can regenerate, if anyone would mistake my example.

Natural selection doesn't have enough shits to give about you after babies for species that do not raise children, and wants you to survive for species that do.

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.

The amount of corpses is more backlog than an elevated death rate. They started running a few weeks ago, so the corpses have had time to accumulate.

Well if you're in a tough environment or fill a very specific niche, and you take up resources that would otherwise help 3+ of your offspring survive, then mathematically speaking, you're gonna want to die. Half of your genes (assuming one other parent) in each kid, so 2 kids amounts to one of you, so 3 kids outweighs you.

Therefore, animals that did not die and let their children have the resources would not have bred as fast, while animals that died off and let their kids on their merry way would have.
