I mean what specific game/games spurred this angry reaction. Because I have never heard of something like that.
Battlefield 4. The launcher for BF3 is actually a webpage, called the Battlelog, which both launches you into a server and tracks your stats and your friend's stats. No one really liked it when they implemented it for BF3, rightly asking "why the fuck do I need to launch a web page to play a game on my hard drive?"
Well, EA is doubling down on it with BF4. On the one hand, not all the features are bad. You can view the in-game map with your tablet/phone, set objectives, which I guess? is kind of nice (although who is such a wonk that opening the map on your PC game screen is such a burden?)
But on the other, it's just total overhyped bullshit. "Oh, on your way home you can check your stats, set up new gear/class profiles and see what servers your friends are playing on, so when you get home you can get into the action with the click of one button!"
....Ok, and are people supposed to do that in traffic, or are all the upwardly mobile hipster fucks you're aiming this at all going to be riding the bus?
And seriously, the last thing I want to do when I'm at my PC is take out another fucking device and mess with it. I'm on a goddamn PC, I don't
need another device. It's pointlessly complicating things in the name of selling more goddamn phones and tablets.
It's honestly, too, about the energy that gets invested not only into developing this shit, but promoting it as well, that bothers me. This isn't a service that arose to meet demands, this is a service someone is trying to convince you want, maybe even need. Why? Because Mobile, that's why! It is its own reason for being now, completely untied to what it practically brings to the table. And when I think about all the things that AAA games today AREN'T DOING....it makes me want to stab someone in the throat with a pencil for squandering time, money, energy, trust and industry willpower on frivolous shit like this.
Other games you can add this kind of feature to: Watch Dogs and the new Tom Clancy game.
Sexuality
My tolerance for this conversation has been reached. To a new thread, please. It's not like there aren't a plethora of threads about sexuality you guys could take this to.
