I tried researching prospective computers once, in preparation for the eventual need to replace my current laptop, and it might as well be Masonic secrets for all the truth I can wring out of it.

It doesn't help that everyone seems to have an absolute and unshakable opinion about certain companies and parts.

Hmm, is this about the AMD vs intel thing?

The way I hear it, they are pretty well benchmarked at the moment. Regular AMD processors are way outstripped by Intel's. On the other hand, the AMD's counterpart to the Intel Atom is far faster.

Beyond that I have to agree. Things started to get complicated about ten years ago, computers-wise.

I just got some inside info on AMD's upcoming chipsets, if that's of any interest.

Tales of Maj Eyal is lagging in my netbook during my Reknor quest.

If you're wondering why I'm on my netbook instead of my supercomputer: my desktop is in the living room. Which is inhabitable due to the roasting heat at the moment. So I stick to my room (which does have A/C) and play on my laggy nb :(

Went to the loo, suddenly, my foot feels wet, so I look down.
Half my piss missed the toilet and went all over my trousers >.>

You had some emergency pants on you though, right?

Also, my rage of the day:
Britains newly proposed great firewall, protecting it's innocent citizens from harmful content on the internet. Have we really sunk this low? Is this seriously where we are at?

it's canada that i'm worried about~ it still is a thing that wasn't drafted into a proper, parliament-worthy bill, though.

This doesn't seem the thread for telling people their problems are their fault.
I hate it when people do that, especially when it's not their place to do so nor the time to do so. This is a thread for ranting about what makes one angry, not for criticizing a person's choice in gaming machine. Last time I checked console wars took place in the Other Games subforum.

Anyways, the reason that brought me back to this thread is once again the worst hell that is Everquest. Don't get me wrong, I like the game, I like the lore, and I like the books. Furthermore this game makes gnomes appealing to me, which is one thing fantasy settings outside of Warcraft failed to do numerous times to me since my introduction to fantasy gaming in 1993. However, what has caused me to uninstall Everquest for the second time in three days would be a reason that is two-fold.

The first reason being that the community seems to be unwilling to be helpful, kind or tolerant in any way shape or form and for the most part when I ask for help or a group says something along the lines of "LOL SOLO EVERYTHING NOOB" or "LOL BUY SUBSCRIPTION RETARD". This sort of behavior is why I quit Dungeons and Dragons Online back in 2010 and is part of why I am quitting Everquest just three days into the game.

The other reason why I want to bleed out the staff at Sony Online Entertainment like kosher beef in a slaughterhouse is that the quests in the game are cryptic and unusually vague for such a game which has a rich and delicious amount of lore and background information. One day I spend three hours looking for a chessboard when there is no clue to it's location, only to be told "LOL LOOK IT UP ON GOOGLE MORON" by everyone I ask help from. The day after the next day I am looking for a particular book on ogre lore and get mauled horribly by out-of-depth undead when the damn quest says that the book I am looking for is in a room in an area with the former residents of Crescent Reach. When I ask for help they say "LOL IT'S IN A BOX IN THE PART WITH THE RATS AND BATS YOU JACKASS".

To clarify, I have Asperger's and am one of the ones with it that is unable to think in a non-linear and non-literal fashion and am unable to develop such a habit despite my attempts to do so. That means when something like a quest in a game is so cryptic and vague and is laden with information that is misleading to me at least it's a game that isn't MadMalkavian-friendly and unless I am able to find a way around this cryptic bullshit and it only happens once or twice in the entire game it's going to piss me off to no end even if I like everything else in the game.

I've wasted about thirty-five hours on what seems to have been a sick and twisted S&M game that provides no release, satisfaction or happy ending because the rest of the damn game outside of the quests happens to be a seductress who rivals Lilith and her most attractive daughters the lilim only to turn out to be like her goat-headed hermaphroditic child with Samael Baphomet and as a result fucks me in the ass without even so much as lube or a reach-around. This game made me want to punch my fridge and now my hand hurts because I beat on my fridge because of motherfucking Everquest. Fuck you to hell Sony Online Entertainment and fuck you R. A. Salvatore for being the first to truly sell me on this particular fantasy setting.

If they decide to do a blanket ban on forums (They wouldn't be THAT politically suicidal. Then again, politicians don't tend to be the brightest bulbs in the shed), I will be *VERY* pissed off.
It's not a ban per-say. Anyone who is of age in the United Kingdom and has their own internet connection can sign a waiver and get past the block. As long as you're at least eighteen and not living with your parents or in a dormitory I'm pretty certain you can still look at your porn, post on your forums, and look at your esoteric content. If not you might be screwed for a while. Either way I hope it works out for all of those who are in the United Kingdom, and I hope the guy who is proposing this bill gets lynched because he is a shitstain on humanity that rivals all other shitstains. I'm American and I hate the guy too.

Well, the thing is if you're the one with an account with the ISP you can call and get it re-enabled, but this way children won't just, you know, stumble on them, and risk coming across inappropriate conversation.

Also almost no one cares about forums how would that possible be political suicide?

Well I know the United Kingdom users of 4chan are up in arms about it since to my knowledge it might prevent them from accessing anonymous imageboards. Not all of them have their own ISP accounts so they're worried about it about as much as anyone. Then again at least it will be some consolation. I mean come on, it's 4chan.

Plus children shouldn't be on the internet unsupervised anyways. That's how they end up getting exploited and also how some illegal content is produced on the internet - a lack of parental involvement in a child's internet activity. In hindsight and despite my post just a minute or two ago this sort of thing is something similar to what I'd do if I had a position of power in the United States, but in reality it's unnecessary as parents should be doing the right thing and getting involved in their children's lives on the internet instead of just letting the computer be a babysitter, which is far too-often what parents do in this day and age. It's sad that people have to resort to what that shitstain is doing in the United Kingdom when really parents just need to give two shits for a change.

It's the government proposing it, so it wouldn't be instant political suicide. Not sure if Cameron hasn't got problems enough and will really push this through.
Of course besides censorship the problem is that they don't know exactly how it would work technically.

I guess a lot of (non-tech savvy) people will like it, because it is "all for the children" and  "against child-porn". In a way I can see where they come from, I didn't get internet at home until I was maybe 20 and it is worrying to what kind of stuff kids have instant access nowadays. But this whole filter thing is too easily exploited for censorship.

Sure. I just guess that such an idea might be popular with people who have much less an idea of how the internet works than their children. (And in my experience there still are a lot of people in their mid 40s who have only a vague idea of what the internet is.)
Obviously Cameron himself has no idea how the internet works, but wants to get a piece of that "let's block all the evil internet" populism.

Really, since I'm not directly effected by the ban, what's most interesting to me about it is the before and after numbers, what stuff starts going up or down after implementation. Does an actual crime reduction occur? Does teenager pregnancy increase? Do psychological issues shift around, especially years from now assuming the ban filter sticks? What kind of saturation for opt-in are we going to see? How (is?) the pornography industry going to be effected? It's kinda' a huge market, after all. Etc., so on, so forth. Even if it's not causal, it'll be interesting to see if there's any correlated changes.

We (the rest of the [western] world) have this wonderful(?) chance to do observe a nation wide sociological fuckup experiment. It's not terribly often this sort of opportunity comes along.

As I implied, if your kid is looking at porn or what-have-you and you're not OK with that, then you're doing a somewhat lousy job of stopping them if you need a country-wide filter to block it.
Well I've been fighting censorship and internet laws here in the United States for the past three years by singing countless petitions and spreading the word online and offline because of parents not taking responsibility for their own actions because Junior was on Redtube watching one of Sunny Lane's "dates" and then deciding to blame the local congressmen for the parents not being involved in their child's internet activity. If and when I have children you can bet Eileen Annabelle and/or Elwood Davis are going to have at least their father involved in their internet and video game lives and in fact in everything he can be involved in. It's just the right thing to do. Plus it's tradition to turn your children onto video games and play said video games with them in my family and that's one I intend to keep alongside pizza every Friday night.
