I guess I'm on the other side. It annoys me when people hear "it's worth $2k on the market" and they turn to the PSGs and say "I want $2k."

Honestly though, I think most people go in there with stuff to sell because they a) want to be on TV and b) too lazy/too impatient/don't know enough to sell it by other means. Thinking you're going to get rich at a Pawn Shop is like going to a Casino expecting to do the same. It happens, but it's not what the business is actually about.

Yeah, I have no idea why someone would take anything remotely valuable to a pawn shop, let alone a salable antique. They exist for the sole purpose of making money off of people with money troubles and poor judgment.

Ok, if your connection is "fast" and yet it takes "ridiculously long", what you're complaining about is the speed of broadband or whatever you use. Also, what other "computer usage" does Steam interfere with, other than making Youtube videos slower because you're maxing out your connection speed?

I mean, seriously. Downloading 12 gigs worth of data is downloading 12 gigs worth of data, whether you're doing it through Steam or not. It takes time, and blaming Steam for that is seeking a scapegoat.

Now explain to him that because while downloading, his computer has to watch millions of little things called pacgets or piglets or something like that, therefore not being able to use computer in the course of downloading something is completely normal.

Also explain to him that although he may cleanly have a feeling what "too long" is for a 12 gig download (you know, some of us have good connectivity and already downloaded like hundreds of gigs), downloading through STEAM is something completely different and therefore normal time metrics don't apply.

Then go get your "Steam fanboy", "Computer Illiterate" & "Couldn't think straight to save my life" badges.

They have dedicated themselves to ruining the internet so they can squeeze out a few extra advertising dollars. It's bad enough that they keep ruining products I once liked using, that they've committed themselves to an ugly ass aesthetic, but they are constantly, exhaustively prodding me to give them private information like names and phone numbers, but now they've put me into a situation where if I don't do what they want, I either have to lie about it stop making use of their video services.

So yeah - fuck that noise.

No, it's not mandatory, for youtube, for now - you can lie, you can put it in (giving them what they want) and change it later, or a couple other things. But the writing is on the wall - they've made it abundantly clear which direction their driving, and I'm not interested in coming along for that ride.

(Also, they lead off the new notification with an insult, which is honestly kind of rude)

They've been trying to persuade people to do that for ages. I just refuse the rare times it comes up and otherwise don't comment, since the comment system seems to be the only thing triggering the annoying thing.

This is why G+ hardly gets anywhere.
On one hand, Facebook doesn't seem to care what you stick in there as long as it fits into a normal name spaces, and I've seen people abuse the heck out of that for jokes. On the other, G+ tries to avoid that and ends up smacking people away from their service for having an unordinary name, and then people tell people its dumb like that and they avoid it as well, sometimes.













And on the imaginary hand, myspace is probably still floating around in the part of the internet abandoned things float in.

The thing is, this, GlyphGryph, is my name. It is my real name. It is not my only name, but it is a name that real people know me by. It is a name that uniquely identifies me on the internet far more effectively than my legal name, which is presumably the one Google wants while making it impossible to give them.

It's insulting is what it is. It's bad enough dealing with the fuckers in real life where I have to constantly deal with bullshit like "This is seriously your name?", I don't need to be insulted on the internet too by people already using me as their goddamn product.

And the worst part is, it's all pointless. It destroys the ability to people to use recognizable and uniquely identifying psuedonyms, with real reputations that can be tarnished, but does NOTHING to prevent a hundred million John Smiths from continuing to puke out vile commentary within the safe confines of anonymity.

And it would be an actual, legitimately useful feature (aliasing, like in Steam), if only they would give us a single field for our "real" name instead of a mandatory split field, when practically no one in the world has exactly two words in their "full name", as Google describes it.

Argh, it's insulting, retarded, and reflects poorly on everyone involved.
