Also the classic: "Let me show you!", while trying eagerly to push the other person out from his computer chair.
This so much. I cant stand seeing somebody fail at a game while i could DO something about it, and then they dont give me the controller (or keyboard, or whatever) ;_;

Anyway, i'm feeling a little sick... really sucks, as there is a camp with school coming just the end of this week...

I'm guess 50 Shades is so popular because it's getting the shit marketed out of it. Imagine, a no-name fan fic writer manages to pen something people like. Publishers buy the rights at a fraction of what a successful writer would ask for. Where to put all that money? Why, right back into marketing of course!

I'm sure part of it at least speaks to the sexual identity and issues of older women....but I think perception is half of what makes a "smash hit", equally if not more than content. Because from what I've seen, the writing isn't anything amazing.

So, I'm coming up on the end of my apartment lease, and my current roommate is moving back in with his folks. Started looking for a new roommate a month or so ago, and a friend of mine offered to sign on. I had a few other prospects, but since my friend was local, and repeatedly said he was interested, I told them all I'd already found a roommate. I give him the necessary application info, and go about my business.

Anyway, last week was the deadline for application submissions, before my complex starts looking to lease out the complex to new residents and I can no longer reapply. Since I was informed that he hadn't submitted anything yet, I sent a messages about this to my friend, which he promptly ignored. A day later, I see him online again, and ask him why he hadn't replied or given me a call yet, to which he freaks out, tells me I need to stop hounding him, and starts going on about how busy he is every day, etc. I let it slide, and just make sure he understands that I'm trusting him to come through on this.

At the end of the week, I dropped him another line, and attached a funny picture to the message. He replies to the funny picture, but not to the message content. I later ask him if he had a chance to fill out the info, and he freaks out again, saying how busy he is. I resend him the online application link, stating again how he doesn't even need to leave his computer, and it takes 5 minutes. No reply for the rest of the evening.

The next day, I get an email that said my re-application status had changed to "pending". I take this for him finally having filled it out, and go about my weekend as normal. Then today rolls around, and I get a call from the apartment complex. They still haven't gotten anything from him (the status was changed to "pending" to give us 1 more day). It's now the last 4 hours he can possibly fill out the app before I'm going to be rendered homeless, and once again he's nowhere to be found.

I'm kicking myself for turning people away, right now... I'd have been better off finding a roommate on Craigslist.

For what it's worth that does blow. I'm sorry it happened to you. Always have a backup or designated hitter in case the other guy strikes out.

If nothing else you might end up being the perfect room mate for somebody else who has an apartment [tries for silver lining at least]. [hug]

They're called either capsicums or chillies, depending on whether they're spicy or not.
Same here in the UK.
Everything I've heard is that the UK also call them peppers.
Weird; I was brought up with them named the way you describe and my family hasn't lived elsewhere as far back as we can trace. I do know people who call the spicy ones chilli peppers and the others just peppers. People tend to call jalapeņos by their real name and the same with birds eye chillies.  The only time I've ever had problems is in take-aways run by immigrants who often remove the chillies from food when I ask for the capsicum peppers to be left out. I was also under the impression that in the US the spicy ones were called chillies (like the band name) and the others bell peppers?

I am a pretty awesome roommate. I can cook several restaurant-quality dishes free of charge, and even clean up after myself. Also, I am a cat/dog whisperer. If there was an animal problem, yo I'll solve it.

Craigslist ho? Fucking probably.

How popular is it, actually? Because the only times I hear it discussed are exactly like this conversation. I mean, I guess I'm kind of removed from mainstream pop culture, but I haven't seen anyone reading or praising it.

Apparently it's selling like hotcakes among middle aged women. It's topped numerous bestseller lists.

My theory is that the big reaction against it is because a ton of college-age kids are noticing their mom has a copy. I'm just creeped out by it. I mean, the plot reads like... well, a bad Twilight fanfiction.

This is because it did start out as a bad Twilight fan fiction. The sexual content got the author banned form the fanfic site, so they set up thier own site with thier work, which attracted "fans", and then a rather unusual scramble amongst publishers took place to get the rights to the book. Even more undignfied has been major movie studios fighting over the rights to what will probably turn out to be little more than a soft core S+M movie...

It's okay, I'm already writing my fanfiction of Fifty Shades of Gray which will inevitably become its own novel and get me rich.

My work is called Nothing Rhymes with Orange. It details the story of the young Virginia S Bondageson and her sexual escapades with the domineering billionaire playboy Chip D Orange. He's got orange eyes so we get all sorts of stupid references to that as he gazes lustily at his innocent Virginia. Chip is also very bad at poetry.

On a related note, I never expected myself to write the phrase "his tangerine gaze".

I think a porn rip off called "50 shades of gay" is almost inevitable.

So I've decided FSoG scores a solid 8/10 on the fanficometer. A 10/10 is defined as "exactly like My Immortal".
