Adventurer outpost (abandoned fort)
« on: June 11, 2010, 02:18:20 pm »

Is it possible to stockpile massive amounts of food/waterskins in an abandoned fort for my adventurer?

How about masterwork weapons and armor?

Every time I try to do this, I come around and the neighborhood has gone to pot. Everything's thrown around and nothing is where I put it.

Is there a viable way to do this?

Put things in lead bins. Heavier stuff moves less, and bins rarely move at all.

Food won't stay good in bins, though. That requires barrels. Can you make barrels out of lead without modifying the raw files? I don't actually know. Usually, I just mass produce food and barrels (but I do this normally--not a fan of starvation). There will be enough barrels of food and dwarven wine that I won't be able to walk ten squares without tripping over some, strewn about the site or not.

Don't use lead, use gold or platinium, they are the heaviest metals in the game.

Thats's what we're after in this particular case. Good for adventurers (low movement distance after abandon), bad for fortresses.

because that's not the dwarven way. Could you make more statues of Urist instead of an impossibly large one chiseled out of the mountain? Sure, you could. If you want to be called a ninny elf by all your friends.

Yes.

What I've done is create multiple stockpiles of prepared food and booze, and wall them in apart from a single point of entry. The same worked for my stockpile of masterwork adamantine armour and weapons.
Once I'd struck the stuff, the fort was pretty much devoted entirely to creating a full set of armour and weapons from it, to equip an adventurer. The food and booze was coincidental.
However, it turned out to also create a place ideal for adventuring IN. Lots of monsters!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Perhaps doing many foods to eat and barrels to put them in at large quantities would be the solution. Doing so, you won't have problems looking for it But also be sure to make for another suitable container like backpack. We don't want to bring two barrels in our journey.
